Who knows where they will end up now! I don't blame them though for backing out, they had a long road ahead of them to turn Saab around anyways. Considering that GM absolutely destroyed the once very unique brand image with their garbage bin parts and badge switching games.

that's a shame. Saab built some interesting cars, even if they weren't very good lol

They were not that bad. It is a shame though. However, he did say that there were delays that lead to risks and uncertainties. I wonder from which party did these delays emerged from.

Until GM owned them they were some of the best non-German daily driver cars

There was only one question. Which Chinese company will buy the Saab?
November 24, 2009 5:38 pm
Not gonna happen as I think GM is worried about technology transfer, as they were in the case of Opel. I think Magna and Sberbank will NOT bid for SAAB, probably sour grapes. Just my thoughts.

Volkswagen group and the Chinese companies are swallowing up everyone!
November 24, 2009 5:40 pm
...let Magna and Sberbank buy Saab as Magna wants to be an auto manufacturer and Sberbank and the Russians want more modern automobile Tech...
November 24, 2009 5:49 pm
and they've just developed an excellent new car- the 9-5... stupid time to close them down.
I think renault needs a prestige brand, and as they major on style, sportiness and safety like saab they would be a perfect pair.

Before you try to do something as a car company, maybe you should try to think all the things through, investment capital needed and such; instead Koeniggsegg makes them selves look like a rookie brand that they are although their car is exquisite. It really is too bad for Saab, they were once a great brand.

what a shame, a great automobile, would be sad to see it go out of production!
November 24, 2009 6:43 pm
Really a shame to see this happen. Would've been interesting to see what Koenigsegg could do with Saab.
November 24, 2009 8:05 pm
Exactly. It seemed to me that Mr. Koenigsegg was the only person/organization capable of re-infusing the Saab brand with its trademark eclecticism.

Both of you i agree with, despite what i said about Koeniggseggs rank, i was happy about it because we all knew they were going to establish the proper type of Saab brand. Very disappointing news. I pray someone(good) buys Saab.

If SAAB is shuttered, I'll be very disappointed. The 9-5 looked poised to make the brand relevant again, and the new wagon is quite stunning. On the other hand, GM has a genius for killing brands just as an interesting model appears: think Olds Aurora, Pontiac G8, Saturn Aura.

Bad news, but I can't imagine it'll disappear with a brand new executive car ready for launch. I just hope that whoever taked ownership restores SAAb to where it was before GM started fiddling.

Wow...the Swedes (and Americans...and Saab fans) will certainly not be to happy about these shenanigans pulled by amateur businessman Koenigsegg and his bunch of misfit investors! The complete production line of the new 9-5 was already transported from Germany (Opel) to Sweden! As was the 9-3 cabrio production from Austria (Magna)! Huge loss of time and capital! Hope Magna buys Saab. I think Swedes and Canadians can get along well, since they and their countries have a similar 'vibe'...very relaxed, smart and social. Add some extra Russian money and rocket science and it could be something good! Hope it works out for Saab...

Very good point, i thought of the same, Sweds are going to be P***ed off about this especially if what you say is true. The last thing any nation needs right now is to lose a principle aspect of their job sector.

What a professionalism to say that after the state support in billions that GM is pro and somebody who earns his money by himself is an amateur? Typical authoritarian bonkers.
November 25, 2009 4:09 pm
I called Koennigsegg an amateur solely because he is still very new to the car market. Sure hes actually been around for 10 years or so but still in the automotive industry he's still a baby and that is by NO means an insult. The amateur "status" fits here because regardless how much experience he has, he should have known before hand how much he would need to own, control and manage a true volume brand like Saab.

I have only two favourite car brands. These are Opel and Saab. GM try to kill them. I think all the European Union should do something. Angela Melkel said earlier it was really unfair to don't sell Opel. And now the Swedish government should not allow to GM to do it. And Koenigsegg should still try to buy it because Saab has a brand new car, the all new Saab 9-5. Come on Koenigsegg! Don't hesitate, buy Saab!

What it is? Somebody here really believes that "Russian rocket science and their money is politics-free. Do you live in that planet guys?. And that Saab you see is a stiff kept in move by GM for mimicking the existence of themselves.
November 25, 2009 3:57 pm
I'm really not interested in Russian politics and if they can save Saab from the f*ckin' stupid GM business strategy then it's good to me.
November 25, 2009 5:16 pm
Because we are not interested in their political pressure under the shade of economical interests in our backyards we chould think before we vote for it or against.
November 26, 2009 2:39 pm
Not saying anything about GM business politics (well...GM is the worst run (car) company. GM exec Bob Lutz is one of the worst automotive decision makers). Also not saying anything about Russian money being good/bad or without strings. Please READ properly and then start typing replies! Just saying that Mr Koenigsegg pulling out of the deal comes across as amateurish, especially since he was already doing a lot of interviews portraying the deal was already a done deal. Financing is NOT a formality! Mr Koenigsegg should have done his due diligence BEFORE going public, let alone already starting the transfer! Of course Mr Koenigsegg deserves respect for his previous ventures, but that doesn't mean he's exempt from blame with this Saab deal going south!
November 25, 2009 5:31 pm
Saab is something special. I hope they will find a buyer to continue their great rise with the last 9-3 and the (hopefully successful) new 9-5
