The official details of the 2010 BMW 5-Series will be released tomorrow, and as an early treat we bring you a few leaked shots showing the partial front end of the F10 model. The photos were posted on forum site 5post over the weekend.

The new generation model has been described as the most beautiful BMW of our time, according to a BMW official. We can't see a great deal in these photos supporting this statement with little more than evolutionary design elements rather than revolutionary.

An evolution of the current engine line-up is likely to be inherited by the new model - albeit with a few tweaks for better performance and fuel ecomony. If rumours are to be believed, we will also see the introduction of an entry level four-cylinder petrol turbo engine as well.

Keep an eye on WCF tomorrow for full official details.

"Leaked" ... WCF seems to like to this word.

But: those pictures haven't been "leaked" ... just official teaser images.

These photos have not been officially released by BMW yet, therefore, they are considered "leaked". Hope that makes sense.

Brian, you'll be beating a dead horse trying to convince these people otherwise

I think that looks pretty good. BMWs are starting to look real good, especially the new Z4 which I think is one of the best looking BMWs of all time, maybe even the best looking roadster of all time.

Wow. BMW started to look as bland as Audi. 7 series and 5's look very close now. I guess BMW follows Audi with use of same design theme on all cars. Even new 3 series has similar lookin front bumper. Not sayin it's bad but it will take a fanboy to see what's behind you just like with audis.

yup, seems to me that they will all look the same in different sizes

This is hardly a new initiative for BMW. The 3,5 and 7 were like the Three Bears during the 70s and early 80s.

Ditto the Mercs and Audis of the time actually. Taking brand themeing too far isn't a recent affliction.

Nice... (well the bit that is exposed, that is).

I'm sure the rest will be basically the sedan version of the GT.

Oh' visible tendency to the mandatory blandness in industrial product development refers to the sneaking totalitarianism in civil society and it is dangerous! Bangle's one was far better as an act of freedom and even as a curiosity of car industry.

I couldn't agree more about a new totalitarianism that is pervading our lives. The international cooperation between big government and big industry has become very strong in a very short amount of time. There are getting to be so few choices that are actually meaningful.

I disagree, though, that this car isn't a Bangle. He hasn't been gone long enough to not have been in charge of this model through its final or near final form. I never liked his stuff, not even a little. He did enjoy freedom as a designer that few have in recent years, though. Maybe his polarizing designs helped to shorten the leash given to today's designers?

November 24, 2009 9:19 PM
Bangle is not my favorite designer too. All I expect from design in general is simple really but hard to cast into the linguistic mold living language. Is it a grandeur of creative human like it reveals itself in design of old Citroen DS, in Alvar Aalto's chair, in earlier Alfa Romeos or British cars from past decades? May be its just a starvation for some presence of the Holy Spirit in things we do.

yeAH fairly boring but im reserving full judgement till tomorrow, thankfully i dont think it looks like a saloon 5 series gt, the front looks very different. still think the new e class looks better, and of course the xf looks better than both

I don't like the headlights, wait to see the whole car

November 22, 2009 9:08 PM
I agree with BMW's recent headlights, they're all ugly - X1, 5, 5GT, 7

Just makes me miss the E39 that much more... they will never produce a better design IMO even if this F10 is hands above the E60

November 22, 2009 9:52 PM
Every new product is usually hard to be digested but as time passes, we'll all begin to accept it.

Remember the BMW E60. The headlights were so radical/weird then we got used to them. Same story applies here.

"Every new product is usually hard to be digested" - so not true. and i'm disappointed by this new design.

After seeing the X1 and 5GT, there is finally a decent looking non-peformance BMW released.

wow. a slightly bigger 3-Series but slightly less ugly. BMW really threw a curve ball there...

November 23, 2009 1:23 AM
I must say it looks better than the current one. Just hope they don't ruin it with the 5-gt's or 7-series back lights and stuff. Those cars look awfull from behind! I would pick the Audi A6 over this anytime though..

peterjames7
November 23, 2009 1:34 AM
id take the xf, i have one and love it but i hope the revised version will have the headlights of the c-xf and similar to the xj, then it would certainly be the best lookin in the class

bILLIONAIRE
November 23, 2009 10:26 PM
Yeah the XF is a nice car and all, but you have to have a nice color, im not sure about the front end though, but love the backend! The XJ is in the A8 pricerange isn't it? Don't like the rearlights on the XJ, looks fugly. Just hope the new A8 is looking good. The current S8 is absolutly stunning! The BMW 7-series is nice at the front, but the rear end is ugly..

bILLIONAIRE
November 23, 2009 1:25 AM
Interresting line at the bottom of the side of the car, just above the sidescirts. WHAT IS THAT? looks uglyy

MTC
November 23, 2009 1:36 AM
It's better than the E60, but still far from the E39 and not as good as current 7 Series come on, Bimmer, you can do better than this

Audi is still the best looking in the German Trio...

Its nice looking but no contraversey, the only contravserial thing about it is its an enlarged 3 series

2010S5
November 23, 2009 2:05 AM
Looks like a 3 series with the 7 series pig nose.

"The new generation model has been described as the most beautiful BMW of our time, according to a BMW official. We can't see a great deal in these photos supporting this statement"

Spot on. To me, the Z8 was the epitome of BMWs steadily declining design attributes.

November 23, 2009 2:32 AM
BMW really makes ugly cars now. The aggressive "shark" look of the late 70's have now given way to the bangle's "Hippo" look.

jerry05cod4
November 23, 2009 4:09 AM
the amount of shayt being spit here is ridiculous... the car looks beautiful, last i remembered bmw is the largest(sells the most) luxury brand in the world... audi only surpassed it this last year because it has the newest lineup among the three mayor competitors.

GuyOh
November 23, 2009 4:41 AM
i agree, sooo many haters here, i for one think it looks good, and cant wait to see pics of the full car

@jerry05cod4 "bmw is the largest(sells the most) luxury brand in the world" i m pretty sure M-Benz is ahead of BMW.

jerry05cod4
November 24, 2009 5:30 PM
"BMW is currently the largest premium car maker in the world, although Mercedes-Benz and Audi are not far behind."... this was in 2008... 2009 i think bmw might be ahead by a bit but i think audi surpassed it because of it´s new lineup.

Aluraeo
November 23, 2009 4:49 AM
well, since they said most beautiful of our time... I expected something... more. BMW is a good car company with lots of funding and engineering expertise, this certainly better not be the most beautiful BMW. That'll be sad.

This new replacement even already looks out to date when it will be released next year. In my life, I never like BMW design in 90s, including the E39, they are just perfectly boring. Then Bangle brought a new wave by its stunning design in e60, Ok it was a liitle bit controversy, but that what we call as modernity. This plain mixed between F01 & E90 will never be a car to win in its design, new E-Class is 100% better, XF is also a good option, only lacks in space and without LED running light. Hopefully BMW will deliver this new F10 with full powerful diesel, they need it to keep their sales figure as high as current E60.

I'll take the current model any day anytime... this one looks boring, cheap as it looks like they put the 3 series blueprint on a xerox machine and just enlarged it....

November 23, 2009 6:16 AM
I don't understand what the deal is, why does everything have to be revolutionary? I thought the current version was interesting the first five minutes, but then it got a little annoying to me. This one at least seems more elegant to me.

benz_man
November 23, 2009 6:46 AM
Oh my! They are right. The proportions are spectacular. The extremely long nose and short rear deck are spot on. I can't wait to see the rest of the body detailing. Look at how pronounced the detailing is on what IS visible. This appears to be design at its best. I'm very impressed.

November 23, 2009 9:28 AM
The amount of haters here is unbelievable. The design is very, very slick and elegant. There is so many sculptures in the front end so that the car feels alive. Unlike audis bold style with LED being used like make up for audis. Oh god i know it would feel really good to drive one of these new 5 series machines ;). Die BMW haters, this is just giving BMW more fame as being the best premium car maker in the world.

jerry05cod4
November 23, 2009 4:42 PM
agreed... the hate on this article is based on some misplaced sense of self-indulgence and unexistent superiority... criticizing a car based on emotion is irrational people, but we all have unique opinions or lack of smart ones.

NewGit
November 24, 2009 1:56 PM
Hardly hate... "There are so many sculptures..." are you smoking crack? A few lines and creases at best. From these preview images, the E60 is more "sculpted". All I see here is a 3/7/whatever body with a few lines on it. Hardly groundbreaking. You should be more angry about the fact that ALL manufacturers are going down this route. Same style different size. What's the point in spending a lot more on a car that looks the same that is only slightly larger?

Looks less controversial, which can only be good! looking forward to the official figures tomorrow!

November 23, 2009 12:31 PM
I don´t understand really! I agree that 5 GT isn´t a good looking car (but compared to it's rival GLS...) but saying that this one doesn't look pretty, i think that it's just brand hate. When the E60 came out it was strange, but if you look now, it's the most actual from the german trio, and in my country it was always in the first place in sales. Give this one time to our eyes adjust:).

"The new generation model has been described as the most beautiful BMW of our time"- how long does our time go back- this has got nothing on the 80s 6-series, the 8-series or the Z8- they were beautiful cars. As for BMWs currently in production the 1 series coupe and cabrio are probably prettier than this.

November 23, 2009 3:41 PM
lol are we talking about aestetics lol? people what did you expect, a bonaparte controversial looking car? come on, stop dwelling on the past like, bmw will actually build cars like that, it is another therefore another design,go buy the xf then, wait for the full view but most importantly the technology.mb went madd boxy with their e class, what will bmw do ? hmmmm hmmm cant wait indeed.it is bigger than the current 5 series so im just wondering how much re-touching they will have to do to render it more sportier when the m5 comes around, yessssss

November 23, 2009 4:51 PM
Guys!!! BMW spends most of its time designing hideous cars, i mean the E-Class always comes out b4 the five series also the S-class and the ML comes out b4 both the 7 series and the X5 with all this advantage they still produce such hideous looking cars. Believe it or not those Stuttgard guys build lvely cars.....

Xenicide
November 23, 2009 4:52 PM
So far, Bangle's 5 Series looks better. You were able to differentiate between the cars and this looks like the 3 and 7 had a one night stand and this popped out. Say what you want about Bangle, but people will be remembering his designs for a while.

Looks like a Volvo to me. Styling already looks dated, and it's not even on sale yet. Front end looks goofy from certain angles. Just another homogenized beemer, not many people will look twice at this, apart from bmw die hards!

What I've learned so far in my life is that you can't judge a car until you've seen it in person...and in motion on the road.
