ABT Sportsline has released details of its new Golf GTD. The car is based on the new Golf TDI with a 103kW (140hp) 2.0 TDI engine, but the more powerful factory GTD makes 125kW (170hp). ABT engineers have improved both power and torque to give it 140kW (190hp) and maximum torque of 390Nm. Zero to 100km/h is reached in 7.1 seconds and top speed is 230km/h. Driving the front wheels is a 7-speed DSG transmission. Fuel consumption figures were not provided but ABT says its car remains fuel efficient with low C02 emissions.

Exterior modifications include a new front grille, front skirt, side skirts, a rear skirt, a rear wing and a four-pipe rear muffler. The wheels and tyres can be selected in either 18-inch or 19-inch sizes. The suspension can be lowered by 30mm for improved handling and performance. It does not do the overall looks any harm either.

Because of these enhancements ABT - the biggest tuner of Volkswagen/ Audi vehicles - changed the GTD abbreviation to stand for "Gewinner Tanken Diesel" or "Winners tank diesel" instead of the official Gran Touring Diesel.

The new ABT Golf VI GTD - a diesel with 190 HP

Some affectionately call it the "racing tractor", as it combines sporty dynamism with enormous torque of 390 Nm. Rudolf Diesel would have had fun with the 190 HP (140 kW) strong "off-spring" of his invention. He would certainly never have thought it possible that the diesel engine could reach 100 km/h in a 7.1 second sprint. A top speed of 230 km/h and plenty of steam in all seven gears - that is how ABT Sportsline defines the 2.0 TDI in the new Golf GTD. This is because after its treatment in the Allgaeu the abbreviation now stands for "Gewinner Tanken Diesel - Winners tank diesel". The Golf still retains, of course, its economical qualities, as the fuel consumption remains at the low level of the series diesel version.

It goes without saying that the world's largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen group also offers the popular bodykit which is tailor-made for the Golf VI on the compact diesel. The extra portion of sportiness impresses immediately: the front spoiler, front grille, side sills, rear spoiler, rear apron set and the typical ABT 4-pipe rear muffler suit the powerful appearance of the ABT Golf VI GTD. As an addition to the aerodynamic elements, ABT also recommends the sporty AR and BR wheels in 18 and 19 inch, which are available in combination with high-performance tyres. In order to ensure that the ABT Golf GTD guarantees maximum driving enjoyment in traffic as well as optimum safety even in threshold areas, the Allgaeu company has the ABT suspension springs on offer. They lower the centre of gravity of the Golf, so that the car lies even better on the street and even seems more powerful when stationary.

Save money with fun and plenty of benefits: the ABT Golf VI GTD is a versatile vehicle which knows how to impress in everyday life with superior reserves of power and low consumption. The fast car is therefore a "GreaT Diesel"

Awesome 390Nm torque although I am not a fan of ABT's Golf Mk6's front, but the Abarth red stripes and California's tailpipes worked well

390Nm going to the front wheels.. This car needs a 4-wheel drive system. Looks good, though. If I was ordering it, I'd take the 18 inch wheels and not lower it to keep it practical.

Still prefer the Golf V GTi, VW is messin around big time. ABT tried by all means but their Scirroco is waaaayyy better. 'nough said. . .

Though I'm a mk4 GTi owner, I also like the mk5 version better than the mk6. However, this ABT concoction is what the mk6 GTi should have been! The Scirocco stole its thunder by miles in standard form. Imagine aftermarket versions of the IROC! Bags of attitude on this car; cue stacked rear quad pipes. Nice.

As a MK5 GTI owner I had an issue with the looks on the MK6 when it came out. Now I see the front is so much sleeker and sharp whereas my front-end is all flabby and bulbous! Rear on the MK5 still better though - esp with 2 tone Votex skirt and tailpipe mod :) As to this it's all good (nice wheels, side profile great) but the front skirt does a look a little cheap and the rear with 4 tailpipes is a no-no on a small car like this. You'd get too much of the wrong type of attention!
