"Questionable pricing, high prices" Couldn't have said it better.

According to my now-smoking, no longer functional calculator (thanks BMW), a loaded 550i GT costs $95,875, or base price plus $31,150 in options.

Very few people by a car with all of the options, and those who do probably don't care as much about the extra money they're paying. A fully loaded Mini Cooper S-JCW could go north of 60-grand. That's just because it has a lot of options, like the 550i GT, which hikes up the price.

"Free" maintenence seems to cost a bunch.

All the options not must be optional for this price.

OK first of all let's get some perspective here. The base price for a 550i is $60,400. For that you get a 360bhp V8 that does 0-60 in just over 5 seconds, RWD performance, and an altogether very well-built car. I think that it may seem over-priced at first, but you really are getting a lot of car. The 550i GT is only about $4,000 more, and for that you get 40 more bhp and a lot more space, among other things. People are put off by the fact that it is an ugly car (the back is just abnormal), but that does not factor into the value of a car. Also, a 550i wagon would cost around just as much. As for the X6 hybrid, while it may have something to show for, for that money I would obviously go for the X6-M, as any sane person would.

i love the X6... it's definitely worth that with the technology it has, an environmentally conscious person would go for the hybrid, but you cant blame the guy that goes for the X6M.

lets be green and save the world because in 2012 we are all dead... hahaha riiiight

Europeans, Remember the Renault Safrane, the Renault Vel Satis and Fiat Croma? Well Probably you don't... The Renault's were better designed than the BMW (the Fiat was as ugly as the Beemer) but never ever sold because they were big hatches, and nobody ever wanted or needed them. Ironically BMW decided to produce this horrid 5-Series Hatchback (oh sorry... GT!), and being a BMW there will be a need for it and it will sell... Oh well!

Ah Yeah... the fancy back.. they copied it from Skoda! They should sue them for the patent!

X6: "no one will ever need such a car" "ugly" "oh my god" - result: sold out. 5 GT: almost the same as above. Get over it. It may not be a car for you, but there are enough people who just like it.

sold out? where? proof? i rarely see x6 on the road...btw, i search dealers' inventory online, quite some x6 in stock...still available at dealers' lots. er...where does it sold out?

hata0101, the numbers of X6 being sold are not a lot, but in OZ, it records more sales than a Cayenne GTS. As the fact that X6 is an upmarket model of X5, it is absolutely fewer than ML320 CDI, X5 3.5D, Touareg 3.0D or even XC90. But in the class of ML500, Cayenne GTS, Touareg R50, X5 4.8, Range Rover Sport 5.0 or LX460, the numbers of X6 being sold is quite a lot and fantastic which brings enough profit for BMW.
