Ferrari Preparing Hardcore 599 GTO?

Ferrari 599 GTO could be in the works

700hp V12 speculated

Rumours suggest Ferrari is working on a hardcore version of the 599 GTB Fiorano. Although these whispers have been quiet recently, new information indicates the rumours are in fact true. While the name is obviously unknown at this point, some are already calling the car the 599 GTO in honour of the legendary 250 GTO of the 1960s. Paperwork prepared for pre-orders apparently used the words "Ferrari 599 GTO Limited Edition" in reference to it.

Specifications are said to include the V12 engine making between 500kW (680hp) and 515kW (700hp). Body mass is decreased by around 45kg to 68kg (100 to 150lbs) using components such as carbon fibre. Expect an overall look inspired by the 599 XX Concept of Geneva 2009.

Within the next two months dealers and buyers should be descending on Maranello for a personal presentation to the car. Thereafter comes a public unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show. The first customers will then receive their GTOs around October 2010.

Because this is a limited edition model with only about 500 units rumoured, pricing will be quite steep. Interested buyers would be advised to budget in the region of between 20% and 25% more than a stock 599, or at least US$380 000.

The 250 GTO is one of the five greatest sports cars ever made so they better hit the ball out of the park with this if they are going to make that historical link. M-B failed in that respect with the SLS. Also, I'm not sure how this is different than a Scuderia edition, the 599XX, or the GTE package. There are too many different "special" editions.

Agree with McNamara68. So many "Special" and "Limited Editions". Makes for very unlimited and not reallly that special. You don't need this when you have those other variants. If you're going to make a new 250 GTO don't built it off of an existing model. Make this the Enzo replacement.

I don't give a rats ass if it's based on the 599 GTB... they're looking to make a GTO? I don't think so. In my opinion, the 599 is one of the ugliest Ferrari's to date. Unfortunate, since Ferrari has lost their coachmaking/niche status, and it's been like that since the 70's.

IMO this car would be on my top ten list of any car. I do understand the reason to get this model though...

For me, this car invokes more 288GTO than 250GTO. I just hope to hell that the real car looks nothing like this rendering.

JDM, the 599 is one of the ugliest Ferrari's ever built? Heavily disagree there, its one of the nicest(in the Scuderias world of new design) ever built, i think its gorgeous and im not a Ferrari fan particularly. As for McNamara, exclusivity aside that was offered by the original(great) GTO, if this car carries the proper performance over its regular version and its competition then it brings no shame to the old car. Things change.

The first person to submerge a GTO in salt water or chocolate should be throat-raped by the losers of a Turkish oil-wrestling tournament.

This car is stunning. However, it's not that special, since their are the other "special editions" floating around. Sill stunning though.

Im with Murcielago, i fail to see how anyone can find this car ugly even if like me aren't a Ferrari fan. Sure you might like other cars styling a bit more but to say this is ugly is absurd.
