Probably a crash car for NCAP or US equivalent - bright colours and contrasting mouldings / bumpers etc help assessment in high speed videos.

Agreed. Bringing a car painted like this to an auto show would be a disaster btw.

yeah i think you're right there, an the fact that theres two painted the same indicates maybe a front impact and maybe a side impact crash test.

r u guys brain damaged or just pretending... its not paint, it's a protective plastic wrap that they peel away later... the sort of thing you get on your new celphones screen or on the base of your flat screen tv.

About the brain damaged comment, the places on the body they have placed the plastic wrap dosen't seem legit for protecting the car. All cars shipped from germany, Audis for instance had wrapings other places. For instance the protective wrapings should have been placed on the bumpers and not on the hood...

AND on the mirrors as the mirrors stick out from the body, and is at huge risk of getting marks and such while transporting..

these vehicles are clearly painted not wrapped. look at the area around the chrome on the bootlid. As others say, protective wrapppings on cars dont look like this. I'd say they're for crash tests or some other sort of tests.

Move along move along, it is just an orange car a sporty add ons. Nothing to see over here.

no LEDs? surely a crash test car then? or are they just going to put this car out of place with all its siblings? hmm strange...

the E class coupe and sedan are also available with these double foglights instead of the LED's. Only the higher specced models get the LED's

Yet another sign of crash testing! They're using low specced models! Only the necessary for crash testing.

Car manufacturers should evaluate whether their products are safe for salt lake crashing, presumably for the North American markets.

I don't know who designed this Mercedes-Benz but it's one hell of an ugly car, if not the ugliest. The front is ok but the rear? Damn how ugly!

I for one wouldn't mind if they crash tested every E-Class Cabrio that rolled off the assembly line.

I'm quite sure they are wrapped. I was at the factory in Sindelfingen where we saw a regular w212 sedan which had been crash tested. The car used was in silver, as this one, and the doors, fenders and bumpers were wrapped in orange. And as I work at a Mercedes workshop I know, that at least here in Europe, the cars are wrapped in white when they arrive from the factory.

plus 1 on the white wrapping, same deal for the u.s. this is probably a crash test car

I've seen Merc wrapped for delivery and this is not what they look like.
Notice that details like the LED indicators on the wing mirrors and the chrome strips on the bumper are not covered by the sheet.
Unless some guy at the factory had ALOT of time on his hand after wrapping the car and carefully cutting off the wrap without scratching the paint job...this car is not wrapped.
It's just the body kit from the sports package is painted a different color...
Why is it colored like this who the hell knows???
