New Maybach Zeppelin Photos Released

Daimler revived the Zeppelin name with the introduction of the Maybach Zeppelin at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3rd earlier this year. This is also coincides with the last time WCF had anything worthy to report on Daimler's Luxury brand. Therefore an opportunity to see this batch of new photos was hardly going to be passed.

Based on the Maybach 57 S and 62 S the Zeppelin maintains the same 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine producing 640hp (471kW) and 1,000Nm of torque. This represents an power boost of 28hp compared to the regular models.

Subtle upgrades help differentiate this special model. These include a set of twenty-inch wheels finished in chrome, dark red tail lights, a special two-tone paint finish, streamlined exterior mirrors and "Zeppelin" lettering on the grille emblem and silver champaign flutes are some of the car's distinguishing features.

Production is limited to just 100 units with pricing starting at €406,000 for the 57 Zeppelin and €473,200 for the longer 62 model.

So basically you get bigger rims, extra 28hp (like that's going to feel like anything in a car that weighs more than an elephant) and a Zeppelin badge. How much does this cost over a normal Maybach?

Why anyone would want this over a Phantom, Ghost, Mulinsaine, Quattroporte, or even 760Li and the S600?

because its not flashy (some people still prefer that believe it or not!) and it has a much more practical interior....

i'd get a Maybach just because it says "watch out , evil dictator incoming". and it's got all the cool gizmos , like the external speakers to shout at the peasants. this car is really cool.

I can think of one thing these Maybachs don't have; a bullet proof lexan "privacy" panel separating the chauffeur from the rear passengers. A certain '92 Crown Vic that I remember very well had one. The chauffeur on that ride was such a prick though. He sho' didn't take me where I wanted to go. 'Least I didn't have to pay the MF. Sh*t.

Think Mercedes should instead resurrect the "600 Pullman" and call it a Mercedes...! Not something named after a hot air ballon.

Dear MB, Very few people hold any animosity against German car companies for a war that ended nearly 65 years ago. However, the name Zeppelin evokes a lot of memories and semantics that are better left out of the marketplace. Maybe you could have a performance package called the "V1" or a designer edition called the blitzkrieg.

Get your facts correct before you start on an entire nation! The Zeppelin air ships were at their height between the wars and were effectively killed off by the Heidenberg crash in 1936 in New York. I'm guessing you were one of the people who though Porsche should stop calling the 911 the 911 because of the TWC?

You'd think Mercedes would bother to replace the 57/62 with a new version based off the current S-Class, what with Maybachs appalling sales. I have personally seen a 62 in NZ, and I have to say, the interior was appalling for the AU$1mil price tag.

Looks ok, if you like the interior of an old, discontiued S-Class (2000-2005 model). I'm sorry, for the price of this car, it needs current instrumentation. Yuck!!!
