Next-generation 1-Series will have a M variant

An M version of the BMW 1-Series? Yes, very possible.

Sources at BMW's M division claim that their current priority is to deliver a "sub-M3" model to the marketplace and that a flagship M variant for the next-generation 1-Series is a go.

But what would such an M model of the 1-Series be like?
(Pictured here is a 1-Series Coupe with performance accessories.)

The 1-Series already has a 135i version with a twin-turbo straight-six petrol/gasoline engine with 306 hp - plenty for a small hatch/coupe. The sources tell LeftLane that that engine will be dialed up to around 330 hp for the M variant.

Prices in Europe would be around €35,000 where the model would compete head on with the Audi S3. A 1-Series M would sell for about 10,000 dollars less in the US market vis-a-vis the M3.

As for the name, the sources say BMW will not be using the classic M1 moniker. "The M1 name to us is a sacred thing for a car that marked an important turning point. It won't be called the M1."

With an M treatment, the price for this tiny car may be justified.

I have the 123d M sport coupe and love it, I've owned bigger 3 series in the past but this is such a fun little car.

An M version would be insane, I also think it would really hurt the sales of the bigger M3, the 135 Ci is considered to be like an old school M3.

I wanted to buy one but due to the mileage I do it wasn't possible ;o(((

The BMW 1-Series has proved to be a success. The Coupe is also a good looking one too.

I'm pretty sure that a M version of the next gen. 1 series would not have the N54 engine, it will more likely have a twin or single turbo 4 cylinder engline - the inline 6 unfortunately is dieing in smaller cars (even the 3series)

Great potential but needs to go on a serious diet and it badly needs an oil cooling system if they use the 3.0 turbo. The current one is worthless on the track.

That is not a m1 or 1 series M. Its a 135i M sports package. Branding this car an M would require them to slap the v8 from the m3. Same would go to the current z4.

*Next Z4M will carry the 450hp 4.4ltr v8 from the M3 GTS. *Next M5/M6 is really still unknown, i mean u can't tell if the engine in that M5 is from the X5M, but it will surely be pushing enough hp to smoke the Ferrari italia and keep BMWs fans happy :). *Next 1 series M coupe will be the audi TTRS rival, also with enough hp to keep the TTRS a couple of a miles behind lool. Just wished they didn't change the V10 from E60 M5. It was really something.

It might be a BMW X1 M, some of you might be dissapointed expecting a 2002 ti spiritual successor. I got a feeling it's a four cylinder twin turbo.

What? It's the same straight six, 3 litre twin turbo as the 135i.

YES PLEASE MAKE IT!!!! Although I am a die hard MB afficianado...I am a car lover also...an M version of the compact rearwheel drive 1 series would be my dream car...for every day use!

My dream car, really not into anything bigger or with more performance. Heck, even settle on the 135i. Same price point as an S3? No brainer for me personally. People, 2 litre turbos are so overrated once you've owned one!

I think the 135i with the added BMW "power kit" is already making 326hp. This can be possibly be called a M1. They have to lower the weight of the car to at leadt 1450kg or less so as for people to buy it or for them to market it. When it comes to handling, the TTRS or TTS don't even come close

I would be very pleased with the previous M3 engine honestly. 6-inline and no turbo. I am also very interested, certainly at that price

35.000€ is dirt cheap for an M. Even when it isn't called the M1.

Become realize: On the one hand, they would never cut their 200% crossmargin on their bread and butter Cars. On the other hand, they would never do things which will bring the M3 in Danger. The only way to get an real deal, will be to bring a 135i to a good Tuner. Less than 1,250 Kilos and 400hp, thats it - but never demand this from BMW.
