i'm sure McLaren, like all other British car manufacturers will be a success... until they go bust and are bought by Russians, Malaysians, Arabs, etc.

this car sucks comparing to the original. it's just a car, there's nothing special to it. you could slap a TESLA logo on it and it would pass a fast electric car.

This car makes much more sense than the original F1 to McLaren, due to the direction the company is headed. They couldn't build an "F1 2.0" and sell it for the sub-?200k price. Plus, nothing special to it? 3.8 liter V8 with twin turbos (& 8500rpm redline!) making 600hp & 433ft lbs, carbon fiber one-piece tub and body panels (first one piece carbon fiber tub of any production car, which helps make it lighter than the new Ferrari 458 Italia or the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4), 7 speed twin clutch gearbox... sounds pretty special to me. This car will appeal to real enthusiasts who will be more interested in how it drives.

I honestly dont like the fact that it really doesnt generate excitement. There are so many more exotic looking cars out there that have come out after the original McLaren that makes this look a bit bland. I speak only of the design, im sure the performance will be up to the challenge of the original.

I agree with that. McLaren is having a bit of an identity crisis and doesn't know where to draw the line between 'exclusivity' and good ol' fashioned sales numbers. Its selling point is technology and the ultimate driving experience, but because they've only made two road cars in two decades (even though one was the greatest of all time, and the other was a vulgar piece of show-offery), unlike Ferrari, which has 4 model ranges at any given time, they are not a household name. This will sting them in America - their largest target market - where such cars are bought more for posing than performance. Enthusiasts like myself are more excited about this than the 458 Italia (really, honestly) because of the performance it promises, and the engineering that went into it (yes, including those side intakes) and we will ignore its blandness as a result. Sadly, we will not contribute much to its sales, and Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini will win again. I wish McLaren the best with this, it is truly a baby F1 in my eyes.

The front works. The rear kind of works. The side vents are a big no no. They should have redesigned that part of the car. The double gills look bad from my point of view. The performance will shine though.

it's just doesn't look like a supercar to me at all. it's like looking at it and saying: "that's it?" I would not put a picture of this car on my wall...

I agree with AutopediaDR, BavarianMS and designads. jamaicandude, you say real enthusiasts won't be so concerned by its looks, but if mclaren are aiming to create a truly global premium sports car brand the products have to look the goods. ferrari's and lambo's always look amazing. the colour doesn't help. i get that orange pays tribute to the original livery of mclarens F1 cars but it's really not doing it any favours... how much better would this look in silver or black? they should've hired pininfarina to design it. or chris bangle...

but what is the percentage of real enthusiasts that buy a Ferrari or a Lambo ? most guys i see with those cars are posers. McLaren needs to attract posers too if they want to sell many cars and to do that , they need to make the cars look good. after all , real hardcore driving enthusiasts that don't care about looks or comfort will chose cars like the Gumpert Apollo, Ascari A10, Scuderia , 911 GT3, etc.

For the most part I agree with scratchy996... but there's still quite some difference between a supercar and a full-blown track car.
