Does not seem to bring anything special to the table at that price. And some of the options are ridiculously priced..carbon-fiber engine cover (?4000)lol..

i can't believe that for an amg car like this you have to pay extra for 'AMG performance suspension' and pay extra for the wheels in the promotional footage... its a joke! and they should have made this car really special by also making the carbon ceramic brakes standard!
im only just liking this car... but i bet the first (and probably only) one i will see in aus will be a bottom of the range one with crap wheels, normal suspension, standard brakes and in a standard MB colour! and that just won't scream 'special MB tribute to our greatest car' to me, im sorry!

Do not agree with all of you. This car is quite special right of the bat. Those options are just extra icing on the cake. You think the regular brakes are going to be crap? The regular suspension is going to be crap? I dont think so. Even if they have the 15.4" 8 piston Compound brake systen on this, with that curb weight i would say it would be amazing stopping power.

I more than have to agree with you. I would never order this car with the suspension pak or the ceramic brakes or the expensive rims. Why this car will never see the light of a race track, the need the stopping power of ceramic brakes and the rims that are stock are just as hot looking as the others.I made the expensive mistake of Chroming my AMG rims and I have had years of bead leaks and flat tires and MB wants almost 4k to replace the rims so stock out the door works for me, This car is Beautiful rolling art. The one option I consider is the carbon fiber on the console very hot looking , but dont know how it will hold up over the long haul. One thing I dont see in this car and feel free to laugh or scoff is a place to set your coffee mug!!!

this is a lot cheaper than it's main competitor , the Aston Martin DBS. and it's faster and more powerful than the DBS. the ceramic brakes are for heavy track use anyway, in normal driving you don't need them, the sport suspension is not much, but it's also only meant for the track, the rest of the options are vanity options and it's normal for them to be expensive, that's the whole point of exclusivity.

ok so it's better looking, more exclusive, faster, lighter and better handling than an SL65 AMG but only about ?10k more expensive (which, when you're looking to pay ?150k on a car is a drop in the ocean).
i don't even like the SLS all that much, but i must say that that can be considered a bit of a bargain, esp considering tha the SLR it replaces was over double the price brand new

I had a feeling that it would have been on the market before the later half of 2010. That wouldn't have made any sense. This baby is going to sell like mad.

If i were in the market for a ?150k car, i will get the all carbon fibre baby McLaren. It is good in terms of value and has a better sporting pedigree than the sls. more powerful and bespoke than the 458 too.

Give me the SLS, the McLaren was developed off the same platform as the AMG SLS...there is supposed to be another more expensive higher performance car coming from McLaren based on this also that will compete with the Murcielago and the best from Ferrari...

The McLaren Murcielago rival is still four years away and the chassis of the SLS is not all carbonfibre - structure-wise. THe McLaren is the cheapest entry for an all-carbon fibre car like the Enzo, Zonda, the SLR for 458 and SLS pricetag. I will rest my case on how the baby McLaren perform on the track with the competition, it's got plenty of torque than the SLS, 458 and the 560/4.

I'll just go for a mclaren with bbs wheels, carbon fibre body, and some extra hp.

The only option if i got one would be the ceramic brakes, just means it would stop alot faster then the normal brakes, yeah the standard brakes would be good but paying the extra would be worth it, it could take a while before i see one in australia was well effington, it will be interesting to see the pricing its put at with the SL63 being at AUS$401,235. there isnt too many of those on the road, still alot of the first models running around

Most of you still are confused about Ceramic Brakes. Fade resistence is usually the reason they are choosen over standard or compund rotors not for braking power.
November 14, 2009 2:15 pm
@ man1 , theoretically you stop faster with carbon brakes because the car is a fraction lighter :)

"details" aside, whoever is considering buying this car knows he is most probably buying a future "classic".

bang and olufsen beosystem..? where's that guy that a few months ago said "harman kardon rules. MB has the best audio system". loser... anyway.
ugly car. btw, a few days ago i saw a panamera, in the flesh. and my god is that ugly too. where is the world going to....

not sure what to think about the styling, but i want to point out that the driver doesn't appear to be enjoying a romp around a closed circuit in a high end sports coupe! sure he's probably german, but even running the engine to redline and shifting with the blazing speed of a dual-clutch box looks all to clinical.
i'd rather buy an M3 GTS for 35 grand less and smile more!
November 15, 2009 7:39 am
Sure... But just until that moment you want to switch on the air condition in that track tool.
The GTS is just made for the track and there is not any comfort left inside so it cant be really compared with the SLS. Compare it to the Black Series version of the SLS but then the winner should be clear...
November 16, 2009 6:16 am
@ 599FXX , the SLS is a GT , the M3 GTS is a sportscar. each car is great in it's element. a self respecting (rich) guy would take the SLS for a tour around Europe and the M3 for the track.
