That engine sounds sweeter than a sweaty, oiled-up Scarlett Johansson striving to gather enough strength to whisper thank you into your ear.
And if the sound of turbo-whine is not to your liking, just replace the words "Scarlett Johansson" in the above sentence with "Bernie Ecclestone."

Don't get me wrong i love the sound of turbos, first car was a turbo and the second one too. BUT i'll take Scarlett instead, i don't think anyone offers a Scarlett tuning kit for your GF, there are a lot of turbo kits out there for the M5 that one can buy.

this car will tear all its competition apart... turbos are the way of the future... there's a reason why cars are better now, cause they're not like past cars... so those of you who reminisce grow up and accept change.

THE SPOOLING!!! drool...
Not a fan of the outgoing M5, and can't say it's that much better than the competition, but this car will blow it's competition out of the water.
Really looking forward to it.

I like the idea of a twin-turbo V8 with a quick transmission. But the problem is, M cars are known for its high revving naturally aspirated engines. I would prefer the 5.5 V10 powertrain with DCT found in the E60 CSL instead.
M engines are equivalent to Porsche's high screaming GT3 RS naturally aspirated flat six or Ferrari's stressed V8 found in the race stripped Stradale or Scuderia. It looks like the M people wants to compete with the 911 Turbo, Nissan GTR and Audi RS.
I hope they know what they're doing, but to me the next generation M5 is like a 550i with DCT and plenty of M-enablems than a true M5. I mean look at what they did to the X5 M and the X6 M? I'd say put the 5.5 V10!

The environment is at stake. BMW has to at least look like they're doing something about it. Sure, the high-revving V10 will be missed, but it's not like a twin-turbo V8 is weak.

BMW have been doing big balled turbo engines in performance cars for nearly 40 years. The high revving naturally aspirated engine deal is almost equal parts great engine design 10-20 years ago and marketing hype.
The 3.0 TT six cyl they are making right now is ridiculous, as seems to be (from only a weekend long test) the 4.4L TT eight cyl in the 7 and X5. The N/A version of of the 4.4L engine was brilliant. Two turbos just added value.
Turbo's don't make cars/engines weak. They add power. The best modern example of this is Audi. They make amazing engines, then slap on turbo/'s and make them even better.

Carbon, they are switching to turbos to boost fuel economy. You can thank the governments that are making manufacturers make their cars get highe mpgs.

Oh what great news...bring tears to my eyes just reading the review...bring it and they will come...

This is going to be awesome, TT V8 will be great. Good thing about the new turbo generation is that the M3 will go back go an inline-6, hopefully not this romoured V6.
I pray that they offer a proper 6-Speed manual for those who want it. For God's sake at least bloody offer it for those who want it - it is THE ultimate driving machine after all.

v6 = smaller = better weight distribution + more optimal usage of space.
Not to mention they are often lighter than their equivalent straight counterparts.

this beat will have tons of torque , i don't think they will make a manual gearbox for this car, they will probably use the X6M gearbox.
November 8, 2009 12:26 pm
The sound is still disappointing, it's better than the x5/x6M but they are the worst sounding cars ever made by bmw M.

For those who want to be looked at constantly, I'm sure there will be a plethora of aftermarket exhausts that serve no purpose other than to annoy people and over compensate.

I've always loved the way the v10 sounds. It's so different from other engines. I'm gonna miss that, but turbos are indeed the way of the future.

theres going to be loads more performance parts for this car then the v10 m5, we are going to see atlest 100hp extra from tunners for next to nothing, ecu reflash, exhaust and intake

they had to do something with the current M5 and M6 in the top 5 list of global engine polluters. This runs contrary to all the advertising of how "green" the cars are. The car will probably be great for all the folks that want to drag race between traffic lights. But if its anything like the 335i motor it will quickly Overheat and radically scale back the power out put like the current problem they have. I feel bad for all the people who thought they had a decent car for the track.
November 8, 2009 11:07 am
your probably talking about the yahoo list... top 5 worst offenders... #1 GrandCherokee #2 M5 #3 M6 Sedan... somehow the 6.2 AMG is not on the list... and since when there is a Sedan M6 ??!?! or do they mean M5 ?? wait a second.. both of them have the same exact engine!... clearly its an article written by some EXPERT....

Turbos make sense in general, but I can't avoid thinking it doesn't fit with BMW Motorsport: the original idea of M cars was to provide racing feelings on 4-seats cars, thus the screaming high-rev engines.
Now they are "just" another powerful sedan like the others (Audi, MB...)

BMW lost there soul when they abondoned LeMans prototype racing in favor of supporting yacht racing. Think about it! They are very successful and build great cars but not who they used to be. They will build traffic light race cars for stiffs in suits.
