what does audi and "working on a hardcore R8" have to do with this???
November 5, 2009 3:27 am
What does Audi have to do with it? C'mon man, you have to be a car fan enough to know that Audi are BMW's hardest opponents, and the RS5 is the direct much to the M3.
November 5, 2009 11:18 am
I know that the RS5 is the direct match to the M3, but who gives about the R8 when talking about the M3? Thats like talking about the M3 and then saying "did you know that Audi is working on a R8???" lol

No wonder they said they won't build a M3 CSL, but I'm glad they build this. not just glad, but really happy.
Extremely

the M3 CSL wasn't priced ?40k more than the standard M3. for the same money i'd prefer a nearly new S350 CDI and a Cayman with the change (for the track work, naturally).
November 4, 2009 9:54 pm
I love the way subby always says everything sucks...then proclaims his idea is sooooo much better when it actually is worse than what he is comparing to...like he is really taking his "cayman" to the track "naturally". Keep up the good work.
Fishes,
Narco.

After all the SEMA crap, there is some very interesting news. the GTS is the new CSL with trackday mods, sweet!
November 4, 2009 7:54 pm
I guess it's how the question was asked, will you build a CSL...No. If bmw was asked will you build a more radical version of the M3 perhaps the answer would have been yes and we would of known about this from the start. I think it's pretty easy to see what car they are going after with this, name like GTS and painted in Porsche GT3 orange. Should be interesting to see it's ring time in comparison to the normal M3.
November 4, 2009 7:56 pm
They couldn't build a lightweight CSL because the current generation M3 already had weight saving measures on it. Therefore the only likely option was a more extreme M3, the equivalent of a 911 GT3 RS.

Another great car that I want but can't afford. BMW, make a CSL version of the 1 series and give us an M version. That would be a car I'd be able to afford (and want).
November 4, 2009 8:21 pm
Beast!!! this thing will rape the GT3RS.
It's BMW POWER
It's ///M POWER
November 4, 2009 8:32 pm
lmao, id like to see that happen, although i doubt the M3 will beat a GT3RS...
November 5, 2009 3:28 am
@ADCAR
We'll see if theres ever a race between these two titans!!!

this is really cool, about damn time bmw took a break from building kiddie carriers. and i love the sound.
i do, however, think it is way overpriced. i mean $170,000 for an M3 with modifications one could easily make with enough technical know how is just ridiculous. One could buy a Porsche GT3 for $50,000 less and the CLK63 Black was $40,000 less. This is a cool car, but a rip-off for the money. And please change that color, no one in their right mind wants an M3 painted like a caution cone.
November 4, 2009 9:21 pm
Its such a great car but the price is way too high, you hit it on the head, for once ;)
November 4, 2009 11:18 pm
it won't cost $170k in the US , just like the GT3 RS which costs 145k Euros in Europe doesn't cost $205k in the US.
November 5, 2009 7:13 am
I'm just quoting the article:
"BMW will only manufacture the M3 GTS to order and sell it at about ?115,000 (US$170 614) per unit."
November 5, 2009 5:31 pm
@MCNAMARA and everything written on this article is also written in stone? right? NOOOOOOOOTTTTT!! scratchy explained it clearly i thought
November 5, 2009 6:11 pm
some of the idiots on this site never cease to amaze. the article's information, i assume perhaps incorrectly, is based on something other than a hunch. based on that, i think the car is overpriced.
let's say it was $100,000, i would still think it is overpriced because i can get a normal M3 for that much, spend four days in my garage and come up with something that is almost identical. i guess, if you know nothing about the mechanics of an automobile, don't have the time (at least $40,000 worth of time), or simply don't care about money, then yeah go ahead and buy the damn thing.
no one knows what it will cost. bottom line, i assume what these guys are writing has some basis in fact.
November 5, 2009 8:59 pm
I am not gonna be surprised if its true- the CSL was 2.5 times the price of a normal M3 here!I only have a problem with the notion it might be more expensive than the CLK Black, because it is nowhere nearly as different from the STD car to justify the price tag. In fact- the suggested price in the article is more than a Porsche GT3RS is here, and WAAAAY more than a Nissan GTR. Don get me wrong- I LOVE BMW, and I own a supercharged, track focussed M3, of the current gen. Done by Rob green - a BMW specialist in our country, and it way WAY less than this price, and is likely better than this one too. I think BMW is getting cheeky on their prices.
November 7, 2009 4:04 am
Oh, and BTW... the orange color with the black rims... Touch?, Pussy Cat! :D
November 4, 2009 9:36 pm
bmw never fails... yeeeesssss! looking forward to seeing this car's stats
November 4, 2009 10:31 pm
wow really nice!! but honestly i dunno why they should still called the CSL i knwo BMW said no to it so we have to another decade to see the CSL again :\ but either way The GTS sounds nice and i agree with radmeister the 911 GT3 is the CSL or GTS competition. Now the question still remains which is gonna be faster around the ring? i still root for the BMW been an M3 since day one! :) lets go BMW M3 GTS!
November 4, 2009 10:38 pm
nice. glad they are not just making X5Ms. and why wasn't this unreveal at the ///M's anniversary? (instead of that one of M5). and that orange / black color scheme is so (old) GT3RS / exige. i prefer white with ///M tricolor stripes.
and btw, there are so many other good cars at $170k USD.
November 4, 2009 10:47 pm
Isn't it just too hardcore and expensive than the current M3?
It's already a M5 territory. However, if I already get M5 and still have another $170k to be spent, maybe it will be a difficult choice between this M3 GTS and 740d.
November 4, 2009 10:59 pm
Its hard to believe you'ld crossshop this beast with a PURE luxury sedan like the 740d. They are very different cars for very different purposes.
November 4, 2009 11:17 pm
Xanavi, I know that I should be wrong.
But after, you spend your money to buy a super salon, would you buy another one?
I though, your partners or the rest in your house will not happy. We need yo combine, one for family and one for us.
for me, I will choose either a M5 and 740 d or that beast M3 GTS and 740d.
But I also know in many of our hearth, we will prefer to have both M cars.
November 6, 2009 9:57 am
Well if you already have a saloon or sports car and are lucky enough to have a family then there's other things to consider of course. But even in your hypothetical case, your requirements choose the car. Dont get me wrong if you need a fast car(or quick) car but with some practicality then the M5 is a better choice of car. Nothing can replace the day to day hassle-free bonuses granted by a nice sedan. It all comes down to what you're looking for. Im a single guy but i wouldn't toss out a possible sedan. Especially one as good as the M5.
November 7, 2009 12:09 am
Its over-priced but nevertheless this is a great car for BMW fans alike and motorfans period. This is the CSL that should have been made sooner. They should have tried for more power but with Natural Aspiration it probably would have put too much stress on the engine.
All in all despite the high price.. VERY, very good car. I would like to see this run against the 911 GT3 though this car carries a disadvantage.
November 4, 2009 11:16 pm
Overpriced hmm perhaps when compared to what other cars can be bought for the same price, but the question is not about what else can you buy for the price it's is there another version of the M3 that is faster and more exclusive from the factory? The answer is no, look at for example the standard GT-R vs the Spec-V, there is a huge difference in price, even though you can get faster cars for less money you are buying the premium version of what is your favourite car. And owning the best of what you love is never cheap. Another 1 is the Lexus for it's ridiculous price. If you love lexus and you want the best i'm sorry but it will cost you. GT3 RS vs GT2 not that big of a difference in performance, but you pay a huge premium for having the top of the line exclusive of already a premium car. It's premium^2 so of course the price will reflect that. Also, that is a currency equivalent price in USD, the M6 coupe in France is 125,150eur and in the US it is 102,100$US. Which is a price difference of 83,650.11$ when you convert the currency. Which is like giving away an X5M on top of your M3. So you can expect this M3 to set you back 90-95k US.
November 5, 2009 12:18 am
not sure if its the fastest but the m3 gtr is more exclusive...only 8 road-going versions where produced, though it was priced even higher than this one. Anyways, i would pay 170k for this one in a heartbeat.
November 5, 2009 1:31 am
Thats a very good way of looking at it Radmeister. This is the fastest BMW in production despite not having the most power so the price becomes a bit more when you look at that way.
November 5, 2009 12:36 pm
I don't like the way the rear wing looks. The rims are gorgeous and they could have kept the air-con...but it's more of a race car, made for the pleasure of driving...it is suposed to get you sweat like a pig :)
November 5, 2009 12:21 am
If you live in Australia and unfortunately it is during summer and the temperature is between 42 to 50 C, and driving such car without AC, then you will feel like a roast chicken.
