Ahhh scratchy, the more you post the more i can read you like i book.
It sucks that BMW is leaving, it sucks that Toyota is leaving, it sucked that Honda left, as did Sauber and Super Aguri left. No TRUE motor sport enthusiast is happy when a sport gets any less competitive because of a loss of solid competition. You can't call Toyota that uncompetitive in F1 since its always ever 2-3 teams MAX fighting for the lead. This is why clearly, you have very little true passion for the sport, let alone cars.

i will care about F1 again after Bernie dies, hopefully soon. but that phrase is fitting because they are Japanese :)
November 4, 2009 3:27 pm
Your lack of care for F1 i do agree with. I still love the cars because they are the absolute limit of race car engineering, so i'll watch from time to time but like you said, major changes need to be made. It is fitting, you're right, sorry i was a bit aggressive, just woke up before work and while i think its good for Toyota to leave F1 AND go to another motorsport i was a bit disappointed.
November 4, 2009 6:33 pm
whats gonna happen to kobayashi then? i was really looking forward to see him race next season!
November 4, 2009 11:54 am
He'll likely get a drive at least as a test driver or more likely in a GT Toyota type car. This withdrawal may just mean Toyota is now free to campaign the LF-A R in ELMS or at least the Asian counterpart. Don't worry such a capable driver will find work.
November 4, 2009 12:22 pm
He will find another seat, probably, maybe at Brawn, after Ross Brawn refused to pay a ton of money to Raikkonen.
November 4, 2009 12:23 pm
That makes sense Renegade, in the last race the broadcast team said Raikkonen will likely go back to McLaren.
November 4, 2009 12:30 pm
I love the stupidity some people here feel free to dish out. They never did very well but better than some others, not much worse than BMW. But there's no point racing in F1 right now especially when the sport itself can't get its own act together. The new president of Toyota is the same man who was responsible for Toyotas amazing Le Mans endeavors so only a fool would think this is the end of Toyota racing. Personally i prefer GT racing far more than F1 so i think this is ultimitely a good decision.
November 4, 2009 12:21 pm
Toyota decided to put its Lexus brand for Le Mans than Toyota for F1
November 4, 2009 1:31 pm
+1 @ Nederina, and the Lexus burst out in flames just for the record before finishing the race. personally, i am happy toyota is pulling out. i would much rather see some new teams like Lotus, AM, or a possible VW/Audi/Porsche team in there that has the potential to challenge for a title. toyota never was that team. this will ultimately make for a more competitive field; only the strong survive.
November 4, 2009 5:44 pm
...right Nederina i was talking about the Toyota TS010 driven by Eddie Irvine in 1991 as well as the very fast qualifying TOM'S 89-94C-Vs as well as the TS020(GT-One). Meaning that since Lexus IS Toyota and the new president is a motorsport fanatic we will likely see Toyota in Le Mans(i didn't say they'ld win). Using the name Lexus is really arguing simantics.
As for McNamara; im glad Lotus and Aston will be in F1 but rather than having great teams like Sauber, BMW and Toyota biting the dust F1 could have made accomodations, or tried, so that ALL manufacturers could race. Larger grid size means more exciting racing and i don't think anybody here can say they're too dumb to follow a 32 car F1 field, F1 fans are smart enough to handle a larger grid size. As for Toyota never being the team, no disrespect budd but thats Horse****, next to Ferrari they had the biggest team and budget, their results don't speak so much for Toyota as it does for the sport.
November 4, 2009 6:37 pm
Toyota's decision to pull out of F1 is particularly distressing. This team had vast resources, but was let down entirely (said advisedly) by its drivers over the years. It was the one Team that simply needed a "highly motivated & die-hard" lead driver to drive inspirationally. Instead, drivers arrived at Toyota with their "Action Man" doll in one hand without truly realising that they were needed by the team to provide leadership.
Another way of explaining the profound nature of this problem? Answer this question: "If Michael Schumacher was their lead driver, would they have won championships?" The short answer is "yes!"
With Toyota you always sensed that it was the drivers who did not deliver the championships.

November 4, 2009 1:18 pm
They could have Alonso when he was squatting for teams after he left McLaren. What a waste!
November 4, 2009 2:29 pm
not even Schumacher is a magician , they needed Toshio Suzuki , that guy can drive , no one comes close to his Ring times in the same car. and maybe they should have gone to Yamaha sooner to get a decent engine.
November 4, 2009 3:24 pm
Not even Schumacher could win Scracthy? Sorry but i disagree. Remember Schumachers first and hardest championship season ? It was with Benetton Renault and its widely known that his car was FAR from the best. Issacu is right, they needed a better driver. I followed Toyota since the very first race, their drivers never had the stuff.
Isaacu, your post was spot on. Toyota was capable of a hell of alot more.
November 4, 2009 6:41 pm
Passionless, Spineless, Guttless, directionless, capricious, plagiarizing
white good producing cowards, exactly like the people that buy there
bland unoriginal and uninspiring jelly mold dross, why anyone would hand over
hard earned cash to such a insipid characterless fridge maker is beyond me!
November 4, 2009 1:32 pm
agreed cornflakes - when you produce for the masses youm must remain non controversial (read boring) the company that makes the ridiculous prius should not be in racing.
November 4, 2009 9:28 pm
good god cornflakes, that gets my vote for best carfans post ever, beautifully done
November 4, 2009 9:35 pm
Not really McNamara, because regardless of whether Toyota is/are those adjectives he described, they're still the bets in the world by the most important perspective in the Auto Business...Financially.
Besides, a Dictionary can make any fool sound intelligent especially when its not in person. You should have higher standards for yourself "bro".
November 4, 2009 11:11 pm
Personally i love the use of the word "directionless"...if they were so...how the f*** did they become the worlds biggest and best automaker slowly and surely all by themselves? Lol...i dunno whats funnier, the trash he wrote or the guys applauded him. But hey im not laughing with you, im laughing at you ;)
November 4, 2009 11:35 pm
That makes 13 teams in 2010 including SAUBER (which would get on TOYOTA's spot). In your face Sir Frank Williams! hahahahahahaha
November 4, 2009 3:00 pm
Toyota leaving F1 will bring the average team spend down by a big amount.
I hope the team gets bought and run properly. The local management were the thing that let it down.
As Brawn proved before, this is a great chance for someone to buy up the outfit and get many years worth of crazy investment benefit for very little real cash.
November 4, 2009 3:26 pm
Brawn GP was a lucky accident , Honda spent 2 years developing that car, i don't think Toyota did the same.
November 4, 2009 4:16 pm
Do Toyota develop their cars? ?any of them? They are all unpleasant to drive?!
Hate to think what their F1 car was like
November 4, 2009 5:23 pm
Sure 9TNine thats why Toyota is the worlds biggest manufacturer without having the luxury of VW groups multi-faceted corporation. They're cars might be bland form a performance stand point and i agree they need work there. However in the actual point of cars, driving/safety/practicality and most importantly reliability they're the best and it shows.
November 4, 2009 6:47 pm
Hello Xanavi23
Reliability? When Toyota?s were solely made in Japan; I would agree with you.
Did you know the European Ford Focus has beaten the British built Corolla (when it was made) in reliability. Did you know the Lexis IS has engine starting and trunk locking problems.
Have you seen the recalls on the US Tundra pick-up as well as a few Euro models, like the French build Yaris.
Did you read of the ?car mat problems? (sticking throttle problems) Lexus and other Toyota brands were having?
Did you read of Toyota?s lawyer that wanted to blow the whistle on Toyota?s supposedly immaculate reliability image but was threatened with breaching client confidentiality.
(incidentally Mitsubishi got caught many years ago from misreporting their reliability figures)
I?m sure Toyota are very keen to protect their reliability image ? it is the only thing they have left to sell their cars. But there are others who know otherwise.
November 5, 2009 8:14 am
Hey 9TNine. Im willing to believe you so i guess it depends where your Toyota is made. In Canada our Toyotas are made here and the reliability is solid. I guess Toyotas cars used to be reliable but after becoming the best, it sounds like they aren't hungry anymore and slipping. I concede your point.
November 5, 2009 12:21 pm
Toyota must go back to ralleys they get titles in F1 no way they can win
it was more effect as an motorsport invistment
November 4, 2009 3:31 pm
that would make sense , i liked the rally Celica during the '90s
November 4, 2009 4:17 pm
I dont think they should just stay with Rally, some form of touring would be wise whether its Le Mans racing or even just great BTCC is up to them. The rally Celica was a godly machine.
November 4, 2009 6:49 pm
I wish they would get back to rallying. Also I hope FIA scraps those stupid WRC specs so we can get homolagation specials again. Forget f1 for now its too expensive, they should get back to the dirt!
November 4, 2009 8:42 pm
@ Xanavi23
hehehe! that got some of you Toyota fans going! and anyway Xanavi,
Foul langague is the last recourse of the inarticulate, my comments are "thrown"
at the regurgitated puke that keep this trendless turd making company the biggest
in the world, the sort of zombified cretin that watches show's like big brother
and think that a milk float called a prius will "save the world",,,let me quess Xanavi
you drive a Toyota?
oh and since you ask BMW & McLaren are auto companies I must admire, and yes I know
BMW have pulled out of F1, Mistakes are made by even the best.
November 5, 2009 12:32 am
Lol, i bet you feel proud of yourself? Think you got a "Toyota fan going? Do you? You didn't, Actually i drive a Hyundai and my favorite car company is Porsche. Unlike other people i have an objective mind thus, i reply to baseless comments. Rest assured i hate the prius and any hybrid, its a very hypocrtical kind of car not to mention short sighted. My respect for Toyota is for other reasons. As for foul language being my recourse, i disagree, i just love the word F***, no other word can punctuate a point quite like that obscenity, and just so you know, my use of it has no deprecatory value to you. not that i care what you think particularly. Though i'll say you're not so much of a tool given despite your ignorance, you have a decent level of intelligence.
November 5, 2009 12:22 pm
TOYOTA...No Great loss...really for a Japanese Auto Giant their Motorsport's HISTORY is very poor, not like Mazda or Subaru or Honda for that matter.
Honda had real achievements in F1..
Subaru in Rallying..
Mazda...well more Mazda's are raced around the world than any other brand of car.
Toyota?, back to the same Old BORING Old mans car...
November 5, 2009 3:07 am
Boring old man's car? Yeah and who sells the most cars? Yeah the one who makes boring cars for old men. Toyota.
Still don't get it? Toyota build cars for their no1 critics, the customers. Not some so called auto experts who think they have all the ideas for a great car. Nuff said!
November 5, 2009 7:00 am
Biggest? At the last count certain GM car production were excluded only because they were made in factories NOT owned by GM, despite their products still wearing GM badges. Otherwise GM would still have been number1.
In any case, there is this misconception that biggest is BEST. Not so! Any lottery winner would rush out and buy a Porsche or a Ferrari (built by tiny companies), and not a ? Toyota!
If biggest is best, then did you know MacDonalds sells more meals than any other restaurant in the world. That makes MacDonalds the best restaurant in the world, then? ?Right? ?Right? ?Personally I prefer Ruth Chris or Mortons!
November 5, 2009 8:37 am
@ Xanavi23 Porsche! fine engineering company, you my not be so myopic after all, Conversely your choice of Hyundai is particularly lacklustre, parhaps your choice is due to financial constraint which is understandable, my hypothesis on Toyota's Formula One endeavour is "based" on Substantial verification of said parties pusillanimous repudiation of the exigent apogee of engineering virtuosity.
