Virtually undisguised

Our spies have caught a Mercedes E-Class Cabrio virtually undisguised.

While only a few pieces of camouflage hide the headlights and emblems, we've already seen these design elements on the E-Class Coupe. Nearly identical to the aforementioned model, the Cabrio features a canvas roof and a unique pop-up wind blocker (the black section at top of the windshield) that reduces air turbulence when the roof is down.

Like the coupe, engine options are expected to include a 215 kW (292 hp) 3.5-liter V6 and a 5.5-liter V8 with 285 kW (388 hp). Since Mercedes has nixed the AMG version of the E-Class Coupe, the Cabrio won't receive the fire breathing 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 engine with 386 kW (525 hp) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque.

Look for the E-Class Cabrio to debut at the North American International Auto Show or the Geneva Motor Show.

im sorry to say, but the rear looks very ugly. reminds me of a hyundai, toyota or even a honda style.

looks retarded, bulbous and out of proportion! the wheel arches and wheels aren't big enough.

Is it just me or is everyone sick of these push forward back ends. I'm not an Audi fan per se but they are looking like the only visual choice of late. It may as well be a Camry from the rear. MB is losing it again, it was bound to happen...That stupid gull wing is a repeat offender with a perfect example of the lame 'arse' rear.

the clk cabrio looked so much better than this, both the exterior and the interior (That new pointy centre console, the new steering wheel, that bland 7G-tronic gear box, those korean rear lights, they all completely suck)I don't know what other people think but personally I had much higher expectations from MB and they messed up. Whoever has a clk cabrio keep on to it or buy something else, don't buy this hyundai sonata cabrio.

Messed up? Where!? This is much better than the CLK. This one looks much more elegant, much more like a sportscar. Hyundai? Haha, have you guys ever seen the new E-Class in real life at all? Just asking, because I can't see what you mean. And whats the problem with the 7G-tronic gearbox? Name one other gearbox in the world, with a drive so smooth?

I've seen the new E-Class coupe in real life, looks nice don't get me wrong but for a brand new car that is supposed to be the cutting edge of design and technology. Especially after the introduction of the new E-Class and CL and S class which were monumental this looks like something that has been around before it's comrades. I'll take the BMW 335xi for the the price or S5 :)

Agreed the 7G -tronic is good for the ML, GL, S class CL and E-class Sedan, not for this car however. When comparing the rear of the clk and the E-class coupe it can be seen that they have the same shape with different rear lights. I bet that MB simply replaced the rear lights of the clk with those hyundai sonata lights and made the rear more angular.I respect your opinion and even though I love Mercs I think this car is just a mashup of designs and ideas with no cohesiveness. (and I have seen the E-class sedan and it does look good but I hope I don't see this one around)

Just ruin, when the coupe look so good, the cabiolet and the sedan are just a total design failure

Design a cabiolet from the ground up, not the other way around!

i actually think that those lines work better on the cabrio than on the coupe, except for the awkward antenna it looks quite nice.

Same backside. An E-class rear. These bloated modellings from rear wheel arcs to the rear lights still feel like design process retro-fittings taken from fifties.

Saw a new E coupe the other day and I'm sorry to say it already looks dated; it's very generic

Also the rear fender flares do nothing for this car

I liked the CLK better, but I like this car too. Im still hoping for a grill like on the 300CE and first CLK model.

and Im glad it's a softtop. Hardtop convertibles with more than 2 seats look... goofy and akward (Infiniti not included). like the 3 series... and the Lexus IS... and the Chrysler and... well, u get my point.

ewwww yuck, that rear kills the car. i love the front of the e class, s class, c class, cl, and sl and hate the rears on all of them. how is it they make such pretty fronts and ugly rears.

I think I will wait till I can see one in person before I judge. I didnt think the E class sedan was all that terrific, then I saw one and drove it I am in love with the car. As for fourseater cars not looking good with metal roofs, I disagree with that poster in that the volvo retractractable is a very handsome four seater and it has a metal roof. but to each his or her own. I really want an SLS.
