Here are the latest spy photos of the sixth generation 2011 BMW 5-Series F10.

Previously, we've seen the F10 transition from faux plastic exterior panels to heavy psychedelic patterned wrappings.  But these latest photos show a prototype in silver color which is less obtrusive for viewing than the previously black and white prototypes seen.

With only a few strips of camouflage on the front end, we can clearly see the front bumper lower grill, fog lights, twin kidney upper grills and headlamps.

The lack of camouflage indicates that a media reveal could be coming soon. Reports peg the F10 release for late 2009, perhaps for the L.A. Auto Show in early December, with sales starting in 2010.

It does look a bit like the current Z4 in the front. I think this 5-series is going to be awesome, although I've yet to see a 5-series I didn't like.

I like it so far... at least it is more toned-down and elegant in comparison to the E60

But if this is what BMW is sending out as competition against the new E-Class I'm not sure it wins in the looks department

As far as these photos concerned, the new F10 looks good, not as obnoxious as the 5GT. The overall shape looks better than that of Merc E.

Front-left 3/4 view makes it look like an Impala. Hah, hah, hah.

Does anyone else seem to notice that the front overhangs on BMWs are getting longer and longer, compared to in the past? The very short front overhang was one of the most attractive things about BMWs to me. But now they are starting to almost look like FWD cars, even though they are not. Mmmm... just a little disappointing.

Yes yes I am agree with this, the front lateral side on BMW is very attractive and sexy because is short and close to the tires you can see this in the previous 3 series but not anymore. This make the car looks more sexy and aggresive but not anymore with new models like 5. This car is boring and to much 7 series is to similar so they need to create something more agressive and more different.

I disagree. Short front overhang is only characteristic to 3 series E36/E46. If you look at E39, E38, E32 there is no short front overhang. Even on E30 it has "standard" size.

Looks like they took current 3 series blueprint and just enlarged it a bit. Boring! Seems like they lost the "it" that the current 5 series has. Looks too plain.

I am a BMW owner and fan, but I can see that they have to change to something more exclusive and exotic in exterior design , the front headlights need to change to something more extravagant and provocative like the new Audi day running light (LED). The competitions is hard and others brand copy and increase in ideas so they get good result. They need to open theirs eyes and move quick to keep the crown.

I always love new cars, I am a BMW owner and I can see that the new models are completely different the engine sound is not provocative anymore like the old models, the new get more power but they feel complete different they feel more electronic, the sensation is completely different from previous models. I know they use turbos now and more sensors so they have more change to fail and complaint anyways this is the future so we can't do anything about this.

It doesnt look as sharp as the lovable E60, muscular like the E39 or as elegant like the E34. Judging from the spy photo, it looked out of body proportion with many body lines that makes it look cluttered and not clean like its predecessors. We shall see how it will look in metal, but for now to me it is a step backward to the current E60.

It looks a lot like a big 3-series. But that's not a bad thing...

HUGE improvement. Great looking car, can't wait to see the 550i

I personally don't like it, too 3 series looking. I like the current 5 series much more. This looks more like a step backwards than forwards styling wise. I mean even the design looks more dated than the current 5 series.

Rad, I usually agree with your comments, but IMO, the E60 has got to be the ugliest BMW EVER made.

I liked the E60 because during it's life it was unique, it looked nothing like any of it's siblings, where as the rest all shared some styling cues. It does have it's flaws for one i hate the way the rear looks from the side, it looks like the trunk and tail lights are glued onto the rest of the car. But the rest of the car just flows, perhaps it needed to be more aggressive being an M car but i don't think it's the ugliest. 5 series GT takes the cake on that one, and not far behind the X3.

I will applaud it for being unique over it's life.

And I do agree the the GT is the ugliest, followed by the X3.

But the E60 is still up there, I think it's awkward from every angle, ESPECIALLY the back. To big and bloated overall, not proportional.

Very excited for new gen though. A lot of promise from BMW since Bangle left I say.

Looks like a child of the F01 (dad) and E90 (mom). I like it though.

Jaguar's XF looks sleeker and more sexier than this i'm afraid.

It's nice, I only hope the petrol engines don't all turbos, I like the 525i/530i engine like it is now without turbo

The more the camo comes off the less interesting and attractive it's looking - what happened?... I'm desperately hoping it is because of the remaining camo which is compromising its looks. Come back Bangle... If you're reading this Hooydonk postpone the release and get Blasi to redo the finishing touches.

I agree but I am afraid it is a bit too late now.

by the way, you know there is something wrong with the world when new kias and hyundais look more exciting than new bimmers. lord, when did it all happen?

silver is such an afwul colour...

I like it. as I said before it reminds me of the E39 (my favorite 5 series) and yeh, it does look a bit boring, but I think BMWS shuld be a little boring. just a basic rectangle, throw in a kidney grill, angel eyes and LED tail lamps and Im good.

waaaaattttt... MBs should be boring, bimmers are suppose to be the aggressive looking ones... they´re the ones that looks like it wants to rape the car in front of it.

I was really hoping for something exciting. This is the most imaginative front end they could come up with? What a disappointment but totally in keeping with the poor designs they're cranking out these days.

Too boring, not as aggressive as E60. It needs more radical design as Merc did to the new E class which is totally beautiful while exiting. Before I though the new Z4 is the opening of Hooydonk's era which is artistic, but not with this one. Nothing new in here, no more controversial angle means it's plain as BMW did in 90s. X6, new Z4, E60 & E63 prove that a car can look aggressive and elegant at the same time. They are just as cool as comic cars and as progressive as anime/manga cars. I have noticed since the F01, BMW was too extremely careful when designed their cars and they follow it to my beloved 5 series. Not a good news when I also wait for the coming 6 series, that rear end should be kept, BMW only needs to tone down a little bit, but not too far. People have grown up with Bangle design, so it's not necessary to pull back to 90s design. Simple and elegant design is really nice, but also don't forget the excitement of uniqueness and progressiveness.

By the way, does anybody notice that this car smiles too much? It is really weird as the facelifted Mazda CX-9 has. 5 series should have a serious smile car as a broker, as polite as banker and as nice as businessman. Hope the M-package brings a new bumper as good as current M-package bumper for 3 series. That smile is better fitted to 1-series.
