At least five people were killed, and scores injured, playing "Russian Road Roulette" in Sofia, Bulgaria.  The game is a variant of Chicken, with drivers blasting through red lights while trying to avoid other vehicles and pedestrians, reports British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

Bulgarian news site The Standart claims that drivers roar through the intersections at up to 200 km/h (124 mph).  Another variation has drivers approaching roundabouts and circling against traffic at high speed.  Yet another version has drivers racing on Sofia's ring road.

According to press reports, bystanders and drivers bet on performance.  Hitting the brakes, a pedestrian, vehicle, or an object results in a notch in the "loss" column.

Most of the drivers use SUVs, and are in their twenties.  There are roughly fifty drivers believed to be involved.

People like these morons that give tuners a bad name. Hopefully the innocent people survive and the drivers that cause this die a painfull death. Jail is too good for them.

This might cause Bulgaria to drop a few spots on the top ten list of romantic weekend getaways for under $700.

Seriously though, the people involved in this need to be exterminated. With a baseball bat.

its kinda of copied from some of the car movies, fast and furious or other ones no one wonder people get killed with running through red lights and do those sort of things

The whole story is bullsh*t. Yes there are races from redlight to redlight after midnight, but no wagers, roulettes in the incoming traffic and killed people. The cops know the routes and patrol the areas. There's no underground scene, 'cuz all the "young drivers with SUV's" are wasted in the chalga clubs. There's official drag and drifting leagues and all the serious drivers go there. Sure there always will be some punks with Golfs that burn some rubber, but this whole story was so 10 yrs ago. p.s. The pic is not even from Sofia (:

freeway, have you read trespasser's comments!? This is pure fictional and fabricated story. In 'the telegraph' the "taxi driver's" name is Rumen Georgiev (google says that he is a model). In the original story in Standart the alleged taxi driver is Ivan Dragomirov. What's with the name change? This "smoke" was just over the internet and all the auto-forums here in Bulgaria laughted out hard at it. Where's the fire? Why no news about the alleged accidents on the TV networks? I was expecting this to go on The Onion News Channel, but not here. And you think I'm one of racers? Sad.

This is one of the biggest hoax in bulgaria's media lately. The first few days there were a lot of topics around the auto-forums. Nothing came out. Than the idea of a pure fictional story became more and more popular. Now it's pretty obvious. There's not even one person that saw this "Russion Road Roulette". And most of these people are street racers that practice only during night hours. Bottom line - don't believe everything you read/hear.

This story is pure B.S. EPIC MEDIA FAIL!!! Even if these people are nobility rich they wouldn't do something this stupid in an organized fashion no matter how wasted they are. This sh*t is a hoax to make street racers look worse than they probably are. Although some of them are seriously a-holes.

Most, (if not all) street racers (at least in my area) are ricers who put their huge a$$ carboard DIY spoilers in hopes of being able to overtake a motorcycle one day...sad people.

I'm not talking about some teen kids with dad's car, or Civic for $1000. Once more - use common sense. There's not even 1 reported accident regarding this. Sci-Fi all the way.

This stuff first came out from one of journo's dumbass minds. There is no such thing as going with 120mph in the wrong way. Its all in one guy's sick mind for the wish of being popular in one of the Bulgarians newspapers!

Las picadas ilegales son de mi desagrado, pero atacar con un vehículo a peatones me parece una falta de honor total.

Espero esta moda no llegue a la Argentina.
