It's about time VW made a sedan that can compete with the leaders of this market. I hope they make a product that is as long lasting as Toyotas and Hondas and the interior quality is on par with these same brands. Id hate to see them invest so much money in a new product only to be beaten by the same problems of interiors falling apart and such. That being said, i hope the car gets more aggressive styling.

Looks like a mix of the passat phateon and the 2 door convertible coupe concept which was out just lately

VW should sell well in the market that is dominated by Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Like it did with its Jetta and Golf in the Compact car segment. I hope to see the new Ford Taurus challenge the market as well.

Say it with me slowlly S O N A T A. It looks just like an extended version of the Huyndai Sonata. VW can do better, and if i cannot, ALL HAIL the mighty Huyndai.

If this car is truly in the "low $20,000" range, how does it affect the Jetta? I've heard that the Jetta should also be manufactured in Tennessee, which I assume means a lower MSRP. Does this imply that the Jetta will be more in line with a Honda Civic, and the NMS ~ Passat in line with an Accord? Will be VW be able to offer a "premium" car in this price segment?

It's uglier then an Accord, and looks more boring then a Camry, no way this thing can take on the next Malibu or the Ford Fusion, maybe can fight with the Chrysler Sebring.

wow, even though that's just a rendering, it's really bland. i hope the designers know what they are doing. it looks like the jetta back in the early 2000s.

Thats an Audi A4 with a different grill, and a shortened butt. Not a very good rendering to be honest.

Doesn't look too good...
but then this is only an artist's impression.
I'll wait to see the real thing first...

you're right guys, it does look like the current accord. the sketches however is similar to the previous passat?

sorry if i sound critical: but this really isn't good enough
perhaps VW should look to the Passat CC for inspiration when designing the mid size sedan

come on! it's just an artist rendering.
but the sketch looks really nice though.

LOOKS AS RETARDED AS A HONDA ACCORD, ACTUALLY MORE RETARDED. Add a third rear seat in the CC, tone it down a bit and call it Passat. CC looks more like best selling previous generation passat anyways. I do not know why they messed up with success. The famous passat shape was shamelessly copied by so many brands and became successful, yet VW changed it, rather than maintaining it or improving it.
WAIT, I have a better cost saving idea VW, have Honda make NMS for you, a re-badged Accord, and since you have already perfected the formula (Routan with Chrysler), it shouldn't be a problem at all.
VW at least should take a look at the new forthcoming 2011 Hyundai Sonata that has taken a lot of inspiration from Audi A6, and CC, and come up with a great design.

I think it looks good, until the reardoors. But I can't see vw comming with a sedan an the same platform as an audi a4/a6, wich this is because the wheelbase is longer so their is much more room for and engine lengthwise placed.
