Isn't this watering down the "M" reputations? I mean someone can buy a base Z4, get the M package, and then everyone will think they have the top of the line car. I could understand if the "M package" was just sportier bumpers and rims, but i dissagree with the full on M badging that an actual M car receives.

the M package is more than just bumpers and spoilers and you don't get the Z4M badge , just the M badge. like Audis's S Line, you get a S Line logo , not the S4, S6, S8 logo.

Get back to basics BMW! the current Z4 M Coupe is the purest M car on sale today. Six-speed manual box, no fancy electronic traction control, great steering. sounds fabulous, lightweight and bespoke. Todays M cars are for volumes and pure marketing.

Yeah, damn BMW straight to hell for keeping up with the times and demands of consumers who actually have the money to buy their vehicles.

It will not have an M as a badge. More like M on accessories such as steering wheel, and etc. They have done this for a long time and I don't see a problem. You cant really mistake it for the real M.

Although I would like to see the M version, M Package is really more than enough!

M3, but one man is not the whole market, (BMW cites the severe downturn in car sales and a lack of customer demand for the model as reasons for killing the Z4 M), this new one is much better than the previous but that's gamble...

Have M3 is great, but 335i M sport is quite enough since nowadays there is no many places to explore all performances in M cars. I just wonder BMW build Z4 with fix roof and punchy 2.0 l diesel engine and that will make sense, affordable, fast enough, frugal fuel efficiency and cheaper tax.

a lighter fixed roof Z4 with the M3 engine could be a R8 competitor, that would be really sweet.

I agree. With no proper Z4 M car, it makes me wonder that the latest Z4 is more of a poseur's SLK than a Boxster.

I will be glad if BMW really release Z4 M, but it is still a BMW, not a Boxter or Cayman. Thus, its sales will be slower than Boxter/Cayman, underestimate car and less popular (sometimes it is good to be under dog). Perhaps, we don't really need Z4 M, just a fix roof Z4 (reduce weight around 100 - 200s kg)and higher turbos pressure (increase power to 400s), lightweight wheel and brake system, hydraulic steering, lightweight body parts and body panel. All of them are more than enough to be in Boxter/Cayman territory and those I've mentioned don't sound too complicated, M people just need a little bit effort to set up Z4's suspension and steering in Ring for a half year.

I have never seen a Z4M at a laaping event. I have seen the hardtop version only and can keep up. With it in Honda s2000 with street tires. This car is not really used much in SCCA events either. Regarding the M3 vs 335 I would go 335 for street but the BMW turbos don't work on the track. It will overheat quickly and the ECU will scale the power way back. I have met a few very dissapointed owners that are doing after market solution that now void the warranty. Shame on you BMW.

It performed quite nicely. Nimble little bugger. Check out the luxy SLS cabrio between 43 - 48 seconds zooming by ever so smoothly.
