Autocar appears to have come into Porsche's future plans. The following is a supposed outline of what the company wants to bring to market.

The year 2010 sees the arrival of the Panamera V6 turbodiesel. Since this is an entry-level car (price is speculated at about £60,000) meant to be frugal, it will probably not use AWD but send power to the rear wheels.

The Volkswagen-borrowed engine could be re-engineered and updated so it can also be adapted to the next-generation Cayenne which gets a more curvaceous look like the 911 for 2010. The SUV will feature some engines from the Panamera including direct-injection V8s and a full parallel hybrid. The latter was approved last year but only joins the lineup in 2011.

By 2011 Panamera should be a well-established name and ripe for a hybrid. A similar system to the Cayenne hybrid is likely but without the AWD burden. While the US could get a V8 hybrid, Europe will probably opt for the smaller V6 alternative.

The summer of 2012 welcomes an all-new 911 which will share very little with the current car. Longer and wider, the sports coupe will also be more powerful and more fuel-efficient than ever.

The Cayenne finally gets a smaller sibling in 2013. Rumoured to be called the Roxster, this compact SUV will share Audi Q5 underpinnings and maybe engines. The same year a brand new entry-level Porsche arrives to see the Boxster/ Cayman range move more upmarket.

Having spent quite a substantial amount developing the Panamera, Porsche is keen to spread the platform around and recoup its investment. Possible strategies include creating another model as well as a two-door Cabriolet. Should the board approve we could see it in 2013 as well.

Americans are getting bigger and wider, Porsche doesn't want to lose their American customers.

scratchy996 is right. Just means its gona cost more for them to engineer the car. Its gona look awkward. Current 911 will do thanks.

I know, since about 2004, cars have been bloating out in every direction, and it just looks awful...

We can only pray they pull off a miracle!

the roxster?? hahahaha =)))).... oh my god that is rich :)))). the guys at porsche have some really nice jokes. i can already see the commercial: "if you really wanna rock, get the new roxster!!!! it is is smaller, more fuel effiecient and uglier than the cayenne". and what was the other one...panamera coupe or cabrio? hey, doesnt it already exist? a 2 door porsche, with or without a roof; i think it is called THE 911. in my opinion, porsche needs a new carrera gt or a replacement. the 911, new or old, will and should look the same. it's porsches "trademark"...legacy. preiod.

"a 2 door porsche, with or without a roof; i think it is called THE 911"

--correction: it will be front engine mounted 2+2 GT vs. rear engine mounted as in the 911.

And the Carrera GT, as amazing and wondrous as it was, was never the bread maker. The 911 is and always will be the money maker, and it's time for a change ie: sales down 24% in fiscal 2009...

Sence VW is going to take over Porsche, I just hope that VW does not turn Porsche into a mass manufacturer. But I look at other brands in the VW group, and they are not mass manufacturers.

I agree with Christopher but we might as well get used to it now that Porsche lost the takeover fight with VW. VW gave the Gallardo platform to Audi so expect to see Porsche lose it's iconic status and share platforms/engines and god knows what else with the VW group. The Panamera platform is already rumoured to be shared with Lambo (Estoque), Bentley and Bugatti. How long will it take before the share the 911 platform ...?

Audi made the Gallardo platform. the Gallardo is pure Audi and no one complains about that.

If the next 911 adopts Panamera headlights, I will be very disappointed.

@joshg 5. A longer, wider 911= NO NO NO!! I agree with you there. But look on the bright side, at least the people at porsche may consider turning the 911 into a mid-engine platform if they were to increase the size of the car. Although a bigger/bulkier 911 dose seem a bit distasefull.

A Panamera GT coupe would be fantastic and it would look so much better as a coupe and maybe the cabrio version could have a retractible hardtop. I'll ignore the Roxster but the 911 I'd simply have to say why mess with success.

I don't know how much of this I believe. I thought the Roxster was axed a long time ago and also that VW are not keen on having Porsche-branded SUVs. I think this report is bogus/old speculation. This article is also written from the point of view that Porsche management is calling the shots.

I love the overall shape of the upcomming 911. The whole stance looks much better befitting a supercar look. With the competition heating up and the current 911 looking almost sedan like bland in comparison, the new one had to look more exotic I think.

I dont like to be a limited conservative automotive enthusiast yelling "BLASPHEMY!" to every alternative, but... Has anyone noticed Porsche lineup will be slightly too big in 2013? It was big enough before Panamera, 3 models plus a Porsche-branded competetive good SUV. Now 5 models. I do hope a Roxster will never see daylight, pulling the brand downmarket and away from the sports car focus. I don't mind diesels on Cayenne, but come on, Panamera? Put in a 3.0 V6 FSI petrol from Audi if you wanna go downmarket so bad. Why not?

If they should make 928 on Panamera, good, but don't make it another model. 5 Models: Boxster (and S), Cayman (and S), 911 (loads of versions as usual), Cayenne (and S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S) and Panamera (and S, 4S, Turbo, Cabriolet, Coupe both of which could be sold in all versions). NOT Boxster, Cayman, 911, Panamera, Pan928thingy, Roxster, Cayenne, some Scirocco-based compact...... I know Porsche tries to compete with Jaguar these days but they are becoming more and more of just another premium brand... and that's bad cos VW already have Audi and Bentley.

history repeating itself , if only i could find the internet reactions of people when Porsche launched the 914 :) i'm a Porsche fan, i've owned a few and currently own a 911 , i see no problem with the new line up , heck , Porsche built Tractors and the 911 evolved from a beetle ! heck , let them build 2 cylinder diesels , i don't care as longa as the 911 continues to be great.

Porsche is a business company , it's purpose is to make money, the more money they have the better cars they build, the happier the customers are.

also, with the possible introduction of the 914, Porsche is consolidating it's buyer base. young professionals will buy a 914 and then as they go up in their career they go up to 911. a Porsche fan that needs a sedan or SAV next to his 911 doesn't have to buy a BMW,Merc,Audi,Jag, he can stay with Porsche and get the Panamera or Cayenne/Roxster.

...when i think about it , it would be fun to see masses of peasants with torches and pitchforks heading towards the VW headquarters yelling "Blasphemy" and demanding Piech's head for diluting the Porsche brand :)

Hmm the 2+2 convertible 2door panamera GT sounds sick, i mean i cannot think of anything in that category other than the Continental GT and even that is a few $ more. Porsche would own a market, the only competitor in the price range i can think of is maybe the E63 convertible. the S5 convertible is not really as much of a premium convertible gt.

longer+wider 911?! wdf americans should get off their fat asses if the want a car. Seriously, i dont see the point in making it longer and wider just so fat people can fit in it. Even though most (from what ive heard) of their sales are from the US, why do they have to concentrate there? Do i need to say about one of the causes for porsches' carrera gt went down?

scratchy996
October 30, 2009 1:26 AM
every 911 is bigger and wider than the last one , this one will increase further , i'm sure most people won't even notice. making the car longer and wider will make it more stable.

Wouldn't you go where the grass is greener? Frank Sinatra said ''If i can make it there, I can make it anywhere.'' The American market made the unsightly Cayenne possible; instant global sales hit! That's why Porsche have been going against their own sports car brand values in the interest of remaining in the black. Lightness is now a dirty word for Porsche and, incidentally, Ferrari. Thoughts on the California anyone?

We're just rambling here. Survival and diversity are keywords for global car firms nowadays. Porsche just understand it more than almost all sportscar companies. It looks more like a 9ff Ruf product than a stock Porsche. Slick colour though or should that be sick?
