Maserati Kuba Compact-Car Concept

This design project by Andrey Trofimchuk is described as a "brutal crossover". It wears the Maserati trident on the gaping front grille but is not officially sanctioned. Styling features include big sloping headlights with chrome surrounds, round foglights, wraparound windscreen, LED indicator strips on the exterior mirrors, tinted windows all round, side gills, large wheels, doors that appear to split in the middle and a coupe-like rear end. The two exhaust pipes point to something powered by fossil fuels instead of electricity.

Unlike other European premium manufacturers, Maserati does not have a luxury SUV or crossover vehicle. Perhaps, this compact could be a welcomed addition. Power could come from a 3.2-litre V6 Alfa Romeo engine or the 4.7-litre V8 used in the GranTurismo range. Since we are dreaming about possible engines, why not a turbo diesel motor with at least 400Nm or a new 2.5 to 3.0-litre petrol turbo producing between 190kW (258hp) and 230kW (313hp)?

With Maserati owner Fiat Auto marrying Chrysler, the bosses could leverage its platform across all suitable brands.

Was the designer drunk through the entire design process? Worst design of 2009!

Not sure what says "Maserati" about this car. Can't see anything to tie it in with the brand at all....sorry.

I even think, that's the problem. There are no similar design aspects to current Maserati, the basic design-philosophy or any designideas in it. It has no clear proportions and cannot explain, what it want to be.

Dos anyone remind the Kubang? That was a well shaped study

I cannot even point out a single aspect of this car that is appealing.

" Andrey Trofimchuk " we will remember your name. Your car's Nose goes well with Bangel Butt. You have missed the Maserati brand's essence. And this is the reason why they choose Giugiaro and Pininfarina to design their cars.

In 2003, Maserati introduced the Kubang concept and that thing is a beauty. This, however, is not.

Nevertheless, some of the designing elements worth attention, the front and tail light for example.

It got interesting design, nice profile, a little bit weird in back, but totally ugly frog from frontal. Maserati can study some elements in this concept, but not its nose, headlight and air intake. Take two Alfa 2.4 l diesel and viola 4.8 l 400 HP/ 300 Kw or 300 HP / 220 Kw from two BMW 1.5 l diesel used in BMW recently Vision concept.

thank you clinton, you would think people would have to read the article before they would feel qualified to leave a comment on it. Cant say i like this car at all, although there is something to be said for the rear end and taillights. If you ask me Lambocop said it right, there is no italian flavor in this car, the Maserati badge is totally misplaced, would do better as some sort of hideously retro Buick or something. It looks unrefined and amateur (another reason it could be a Buick) although this is maybe emphasized by the fact that the designer is using the Hypershot rendering engine, which is not a professional grade program (note the difference in camera focus between the car and the ground)

The Kubang Concept unfortunately never saw the light of day and it was a beauty with proper Trident design language; that's why this dude feels he can persuade Maserati to consider his own version. Hence the 'Kuba' reference. Maserati got cold feet with the Kubang when SUVs were all the rage (X5,ML,Cayenne,Q7), but the Kuba could scare them off the SUV route completely!

It looks like a concept update on the '57 Chevrolet.
