Mercedes-Benz is offering C 63 AMG customers a new factory-fitted enhancement kit for their cars called the Performance Package Plus. Both the sedan and the wagon can be fitted with the package.

The 6.3-litre (6208cc) V8 engine has been modified by fitting forged pistons adopted from the new SLS AMG, a lightweight crankshaft, new connecting rods and a new engine management system.

Power goes from 336kW (457hp) to an E 55 AMG-rivalling 358kW (487hp). Peak torque is 600Nm (443 lb-ft) at 5,000rpm. Cars like the new updated Porsche 911 Turbo and the Nissan GT-R, as well as the C-Class DTM also play in that power league. It will go from 0 - 100km/h in 4.4 seconds (4.5 seconds for the wagon), 0 - 200km/h in 13.9 seconds and top off at an electronically limited 250km/h.

Kit includes an AMG carbon fibre lip spoiler on the boot lid (for the sedan), a new AMG high-performance braking system and an AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather. The wheel's grip area is covered in strong but soft Alcantara. Black designo leather can be ticked off the options box for €2,856. It covers the upper section of the dashboard, the upper door trim and the armrest on the centre console.

Prices for the Performance Package Plus are €7,080.50 and €6,426.

Enhanced driving dynamics ex factory for the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG: the new Performance Package Plus is an attractive optional extra that is designed to appeal to the power-hungry sports driver. The Performance Package Plus increases output by 22 kW/30 hp to 358 kW/487 hp. As a result, the C-Class approaches the level of performance offered by C-Class DTM vehicles, which deliver 377 kW/500 hp. The Performance Package Plus is available for the saloon and estate models and includes an AMG high-performance braking system featuring composite technology on the front axle, a carbon fibre spoiler lip (saloon) and an AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather/Alcantara.

With the Performance Package Plus, the C 63 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 13.9 seconds. This beats the 336 kW/457 hp standard model by up to 1.2 seconds (0–100 km/h: 4.5 seconds; 0–200 km/h: 15.2 seconds). The top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

The improvement in power output to 358 kW/487 hp is due to the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine's modified engine compartment: the forged pistons adopted from the new SLS AMG super sports car together with new connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft translate into a weight saving of three kilograms. Reduced inertia boosts the agility and responsiveness of the uprated V8 engine, which is recognisable from the variable intake manifold painted in titanium grey. New engine management completes the powertrain measures in the Performance Package Plus for the C 63 AMG.

AMG high-performance braking system featuring composite technology

The Performance Package Plus braking system has been adapted to the enhanced driving dynamics. A new AMG high-performance braking system ensures greater stability when driving dynamically, with compound brake discs on the front axle and red painted brake callipers all round showing the AMG logo. The brake discs feature a composite design and are connected to an aluminium bowl to avoid temperature peaks. The connection between the disc and bowl is new: instead of the usual screw connection, the aluminium bowl is now connected to the brake disc via cast-in arms. The advantage is more homogenous temperature distribution on the brake disc.

A further identifying feature of the Performance Package Plus is the AMG carbon fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid (saloon). In the interior, the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with a grip area trimmed in Alcantara feels good, while at the same time making a striking visual impact.

The new AMG Performance Package Plus is available for C 63 AMG saloon and estate models and can be ordered now. The sales price is €7080.50 or €6426
(saloon/estate; prices include 19% VAT) with the market launch taking place in December 2009.

Extended appointments in black designo leather

New black designo leather as an optional extra will enhance the interior even further and covers the upper section of the dashboard, the upper door trim and the armrest on the centre console. This high-quality feature is available in conjunction with nappa leather appointments for €2856 (price includes 19% VAT).

The internationally successful C 63 AMG model

The C 63 AMG is one of the most popular vehicles in the Mercedes-AMG model range. In 2008, 8100 units of this high-performance car were sold worldwide. The C 63 AMG demonstrates its sports credentials in international motorsport as well as on the road. For example, the C 63 AMG estate is used as the official F1™ medical car and the C 63 AMG saloon acts as a safety car in the DTM German Touring Car Masters.

yeah, an SLK with this performance package and some weight reduction (a toned down SLK black series) would be killer

Near M5 power in an M3 rival? That's madness. As if the C 63 wasn't powerful enough! Great stuff.

I like all these options, its what separates AMG from M, not that BMW ain't learning, look at their performance accessories range.

But the issue with the c63 ain't the power, it needs a more interactive transmission, even more so the SLK 55 which doesn't blip on down changes

This doesn't take away how fantastic the car is, but what is the need of SLS AMG's mechanical tuning if the engine is still almost 40hp short from the E63/CLS63? Marketing?

Exactly, it almost makes me think the original C63 is a rip off since the engine should have 525hp instead. Anyway, sweet ride, looks better than the SLS too ;P

it is not the same engine , the SLS has a new 6.3 that actually has 6.3 liters. the SL63 has a NA high rev 6.2l V8 with 525 hp and C63 has a low rev supercharged 6.2 liter engines with lower HP but a lot of torque.

I am sure the C63 has the same NA 6.2 block as the other AMG "63" engines only detuned. Not sure about the SLS though.

Funny. The last thing this car needed was more power. It needs lightness and revised steering to rival M3, not more power. Now go back to your design studios merc enegineers, and try to make a fast saloon that handles well!

then it would be just another M3 clone. this is a different beast and it's a good thing, not everyone cares about fast track times, this car is pure fun, you just push the gas pedal and scream "POWERRR !!!" :)

oh haha i didnt read scratchys comment. Scratchy put it perfectly. & thats true. the C63 is not an M3 clone. its an entirely different beast

Scratchy knows what he's talking about. Almost nobody takes their M3, C63, or RS4 to the track. Reality is the stop light drag race, and the AMG Merc wins that by car lengths every single time. Sorry BMW fan boys.

still big, fat and heavy car..and engine, with so little power. i dont see why one would buy this over an m3 sedan or an rs4.

id buy the C63 any day over the RS4 cz i wouldnt spend 60,000$ buying understeer & 4 wheel drive, & id also chose it over the M3 cz im not a pussy that only does track time with an easy to handle car. id rather strugle & revive the car & feel the joy of the success. i bet C63 drivers are a lot better drivers than M3 drivers
