Jenson Button is formula one's new world champion, after finishing the Brazilian grand prix in fifth place.

As winner Mark Webber, as well as Robert Kubica and Lewis Hamilton, sprayed champagne on the podium, the Brawn driver celebrated in the Interlagos pitlane below.

"It's really amazing ... my voice has gone!" said the 29-year-old Briton after singing 'We are the champions' and screaming into his radio on the slowing-down lap.

Button had started the race from 14th on the grid, completing several passing moves including who he described as the "absolutely crazy" debutant Kamui Kobayashi, and the Brawn driver insists it was a champion's drive.

"After the last few races, this one makes up for it," he said.

Brawn GP, established from the ashes of Honda's works team less than a year ago, also win the constructors' world champion by at least 9.5 points over Red Bull.

Pole sitter Rubens Barrichello led the opening stint of his 71-lap home race, but fell behind later on and ultimately finished just eighth after Hamilton punctured his rear tyre during an overtaking move.

Sebastian Vettel had a strong race through the field to fourth and overtakes Barrichello for second in the championship, but even if the Red Bull driver wins in Abu Dhabi in two weeks, Button wins the title by 5 points.

Congrats to Button, even though I didn't want him to win.

i didn't want him to win either, but congrats to him. Rubens is cursed when ever he's in a good position at INTERLAGOS something always goes wrong but he's got nothing to be ashamed of, because he gave it everything.

Pure luck that Button won the championship. He's not better then the rest of drivers, he just had a better car for a few months.

It's not luck at all .. BrawnGP did a very good job with the car, but the car is not everything ,, Button was a good driver too, may be there were some better drivers than him but he was good enough with this car .. And you can see in Belgium GP, where Raikkonen took the lead and Badoer was in the tail with the same car ! Congrats Button & Brawn ..

Button is a great driver. In this type of racing it doesn't just come down to your car. They are too fast and efficient at this point to make a difference. It comes down the fact that Button is indeed a great driver who is able to control a great car and it doesnt hurt at all that he was on a new team that was more organized and had better strategies. Just having a slightly better car wont win you the amount of races that Button won. He's worked hard and deserves the title. Possibly one of the most underrated drivers in F1. yeah I would have rather had Hamilton win, or Barrichello but it didnt happen. just be happy for the guy.

I agree completely. I am really happy for Jenson--he's a class act. Looking at the whole season, I don't think there is another car that has been as reliable, consistent, and fast as the Brawns. Button did crawl his way to this championship but he deserves it, it's been a long time coming for him. Lewis is, imo, the best driver in F1 today though.

Button is a good driver, no doubt, all the F1 drivers are good, or else they would not be F1 drivers. but the Brawn car wasn't slightly better this season , it was vastly superior. Honda started developing this car in 2007, they put a huge amount of effort and money into this car and then just handed the team to Ross Brawn, who happens to be the best F1 engineer. the split diffuser, superior aerodynamics and the best engine of the year made the Brawn cars the best cars by a wide margin, allowing Button and Rubens to dominate this season.

Well done Button! At last! Was really painful watching him struggle the past races, but drove really well today! Commiserations to Barrichello; that guy is sooo unlucky...

It's never about luck, it's always a combination of skill and a good car! Button had the winning combination this year, that's all!

Jensen did well this season, proving his talent as a driver with the right hardware and support arround him. It's not luck that led him to the front in one third of this year's races and the efforts of him and Brawn should be recognised. I do feel sorry for Rubinho though. With a move to WIlliams this was probably his last real chance this year to win the Driver's Championship.

Well done Jenson, that was a Championship drive yesterday. I wasn't convinced however yesterday changed my mind, he went for the win and it paid off. I'm a Hamilton fan who I might add had the best drive of anyone 17th to 3rd amazing!!!! Next year is going to be amazing , likewise Abu Dhabi will also be very good I think. It's no longer a two team game, Ferrari and Mclaren have to fight for their wins.

Congrats to Ross Brawn. Button may not be the one who deserved it the most, but not the least either: he made the most out of his car at the beginning of the season. If Rubens would have achieved the same at the beginning, he'd be the crowned one !

Button has been winning since day one of the 2009 season. After a year of him being at the top of the list, it was a harsh let down for me when he actually won.
