2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Laps Nurburgring 10 Seconds Faster than Predecessor

2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Laps Nurburgring 10 Seconds Faster than Predecessor
Porsche 997 911 Turbo Facelift

The 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo has reportedly posted a laptime of 7 minutes and 39 seconds on the Nurburgring.  That time beats out the last 911 Turbo by about ten seconds.

For 2010, the 911 Turbo uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that pumps out around 500 horsepower and up to 480 ft-lb of torque.  This represents a 20hp increase over the 3.6-liter engine the German automaker used to use.

Power figures notwithstanding, the new 911 Turbo saves 25 kilograms by using the dual-clutch gearbox instead of the previous version's automatic.  At just under 1600 kilos, the 911 Turbo now has a 309 hp per tonne power-to-weight ratio.

The weight has been trimmed by 25kg in models with the new dual clutch gearbox over those running the old automatic to an impressive 1595kg, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 309bhp/tonne.

With all-wheel drive, the $132,800 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo goes from 0-62mph in about 3.4 seconds.

Only thing with the GT-R, you need a Nissan test/racecar driver to get that lap-time. Anyone else and you'll be way off.

I would say it's the other way around, the porsche is more tempermental and therefore harder to control, plus it has less computer asists. I would bet that anyone off the street would have an easier time driving around the ring in the GT-R. I want the new GT2 to come out, and slap that GT-R around the track.

@radmeister What I mean is even other racecar drivers can't get close to Nissan's claimed lap time for the GT-R.

all independent tests made with the GTR are far away from Suzuki's time. either he is some kind of super ninja driver or there is something fishy about Nissan's claimed time.

@ radmeister stop being such a fanboy. both the GT-R and the Porsche 911 Turbo are pick-up-and-play supercars. also, i agree with the other statements. the Nissan's GT-R lap time makes NO sense and is likely to be falsified. Germans are way too rigid to lie about their times.

how can that be? porsche 911 turbo already did 7:38 on the nurburgring, if the facelift version is 10 s faster, that would bring it to 7:28. I don't get it.

Come on, GTR people!..you still believe ur Nissan can beat Porsche? HAHAHAA!!! If only Nissan driver/tester can make the lap time they claimed, then it is NOT a AUTHENTIC data. Why?? I thought people have gone to elementary school. Don't they teach us that you have to produce the SAME result "multiple" times to make it a "theory"!? Nissan CAN'T beat POrsche. Do the physics. Ooops! Sorry. You didn't even know the elementary school stuff. Nevermind.

The source of this info. . "posted a laptime of 7 minutes and 39 seconds" was from autocar.co.uk they must have had a typo someone on there is saying now that the new time claim is 7:27. If thats true thats fast, a huge jump from last year. with the PDK and torque vectoring on the 2010 I can believe it. heres their correction: http://www.autocar.co.uk/forums/p/9232/70713.aspx#70713

997 turbo is true super car and this new PDK one is even better, but i still think GT-R is bit faster.. because every test i've seen such as Top gear, 5th gear, Autocar...they all say GT-R is faster and easier to drive super fast.

the new 997.2 turbo wasn't on Top Gear , Fifth Gear or Autocar. it doesn't only have PDK , more power, more torque , better suspensions, better handling , less weight, it also has Torque Vectoring, that's what made the GTR so fast. the GTR lost the only advantage it had.

wow that is definitely faster then GTR. Because no one simply got Nissans claimed lap time or even came close.

The GT-R and 911 Turbo are in leagues of their own. It's like comparing a GTI to a ST... The ST is an amazing package, faster, better handling and cheaper but the GTI is still given respect!

the difference is the TT makes u smile all day, all year long. the GT-R makes u smile for one lap until it breaks down and u are faced with warranty issues.

thanks! I think IMO that nissan is just straight up lieing about having sub 7:30 times, especially in a car that heavy with almost all luxuries in it. i'd like to see a race one of these days, between the 997 turbo, the new one, CGT and the GTR. all on slicks.

Where's the proof? This isn't coming from Porsche and there's no reference to who did it. Could be total BS. And FYI Nissan has had 2 independent sources come close to Nissan's claimed time. Not saying the Turbo isn't fast, but the double-standard is amazing. You'll all believe some unnamed source for Porsche, but Nissan needs to formally combat criticism. All those articles, Wiki, worldcarfans, autocar, carsinaction, NONE have any evidence yet. This is internet fluff until proven otherwise.
