A facelifted Mercedes-Benz R-Class has been spied again but this time showing much more of its true colours than previously. It has a brand new front end featuring LED daytime running lights, a new front bumper, new headlights, a different bonnet and fresh side mirrors.

Changes were also made at the rear but these are minimal. However they do include a new-shape bumper, rear LED lights and new exhaust tailpipes. Overall the R-Class has now visually caught up with other latest Mercedes models. Engines will also play catch-up and probably include BlueEfficiency and BlueTec models.

The vehicle has not been the most successful Mercedes model so far with sales lagging projections. Even the advent of a seven seat option and additional entry level drivetrain options did not significantly improve circumstances. Hopefully, these dramatic changes will set the R-Class on an improved path, if only one could classify it properly.

Public debut will be at the 2010 North American Auto Show in January. Soon thereafter it will start selling in the US as a 2011 model.

I've driven the R 280L and it's pretty good and supremely comfortable for the whole family, very American indeed. Good for long tourers but bad in the city or shopping malls carparks. I love the panoramic roof aswell and hope that they will improve the dashboard and dated COMAND controls.

You can pick these up used for the same price as a new Focus in the UK. It's a lot of car for the money; for some, TOO MUCH car. I'd probably go for this over an S-Class used.

Dont get me wrong here, Iam a died in the wool Benz Fan. But the R class has always made me think wow somebody actually squatted down and pinched out a steaming loaf as it were cause that what it looks like. This new look is better but its still to long and big!!

These are very good, subtle changes that will suit R class very well... Now, that'll be the R class I expected when we talk about design... Otherwise, it is very good car worth buying...

Hard to believe it took this many years to fix the two styling features that made this car so hideous: the ovoid headlamps with the tear ducts and the taillights. Shocking how much better this vehicle looks with this facelift.

WCF, there is already a BlueTec model sold in the US.

looks better, add some roof racks and make it shorter.

It's a better design than the previous bug-eyed funeral-car...
