+1. That would bring up that make's reputation up ten fold.... unless they are always last. So it is either Skoda or Porsche. :P

This is the only brand that would make absolutely no sense! Skoda doesn't have the profile of a sports car manufacturer, it's more like a pensioner's car. What sounds more logical would be Bugatti/Porsche/Lambo/Audi as the performance brand, or VW as the core player in the VAG group, or even SEAT as the brand with the more dynamic and younger clientelle.

You have to be kinddin'! Is this another nice joke for Skodas? Skoda is the only brand in the VAG portfolio which has been a complete loser (with their Fabia wrc racing car)! At least VW has won the Dakar championship with the Touareg, AUDI the LeMans and SEAT the WTCC trophy with the Leon TDI! My guess is it will be Porsche or Lamborghini's turn...

i think VW/Audi/Porsche should def. participate in the F-1. they have everything what it needs to be good. but i agree that that F-1 still need to lower the costs so the teams get a better output for their input.

Bring back Porsche! I remember watching Lauda & Prost dominate in the McLaren-Porsches in the 80s, and always wished they'd return to F1 with a factory team.

Porsche and Audi are already racing with good results, i think the F1 team will have the VW name to compete against Toyota.

VW will be waiting with much anticipation for next year when the new engine formula will be defined. They haven't made the move into F1 because Le Mans suited their marketing policy to "glamourise" their diesel technology.

How about Lamborghini? Since they've been rivaling Ferrari

Yes ... VAG go into the F1 with a diesel engine :) ! That would be really a great step ahead and some real refresh for the brand's sport image.

If they enter it will be under the Audi or Bugatti name, with a very outside chance that they will use Bentley. Depends what pans out in the engine formula and VW's overall motorsports programs. I would be happy with either name, but it would be fantastic to see Bugatti cars in that beautiful blue, on the grid.

Its weird that they are using VW as the brand, in the group Seat is the brand with the sporty young image. I hope they will not use audi or vw as those cars are used by old people

Ahhh what? Really? Seat is the brand that they should use? Pass some of that over here.

@richard_x +1 Man I totally agree with you. Not only Seat has been the mainstream brand in the group with the sportiest image and those cool hot hatches like the Cupra, but they 've also been trully successful in the '90s when they raced in the WRC championship or nowadays that they 've neen racing in the WTCC championship. This would be a brilliant move to bring Seat in F1!

Why not Skoda? It's just as relevant globally as Seat.

It's called sarcasm mate. SEAT is a nothing brand in many parts of the world. It's not even sold in many of the major markets for Formula 1. It would be idiotic for VW to call their F1 team SEAT when they have many other more appropriate brands to leverage. Well almost all their other brands really

What is getting really sarcastic for you is the fact that SEAT has been participating in the FIA WTCC championship for years which actually IS a WORLD Touring Car Championship you know! LOL Unfortunately and despite of your saying, this didn't seem to impose them last year from even winning the title! Feel sorry to inform you but people do know that the presence of SEAT in the WTCC makes a great publicity for the whole VAG group, what Skoda has turned to digrace with their participation in the WRC! (For your own interest SEAT sales in Europe and Latin America, and VW has already taken a decision to further expand the SEAT brand in new markets during the next years.)

Are your reading what I'm writing or just ranting? SEAT has very little brand presence and exposure on a global scale compared to Audi or Volkswagen or Porsche. Formula 1 is a marketing exercise, a F1 team will still cost roughtly $75m eud a year to run. Much more than the profit of $44m eud that SEAT generated on $4.8 BILLION eud worth of sales. Nearly 1/3rd of those sales were in Spain too. I didn't realise Spain was the entire world? I thought only American's thought their country was the entire world. . I'm glad you don't work for me in marketing. Even then the profits are generated because of favourable tax laws. Lets compare that with Audi shall we? In 2008 they sold about as many A4's as SEAT sold across their entire range. Audi sold over ONE MILLION cars in 2008, the Audi group as a whole sold nearly 1.225 MILLION cars in 2008. That generated an after tax profit of $2.2 billion eud. So yes, SEAT is generating the profits for Formula 1 when compared with the rest of the group. Btw "World" Touring Car Championship, what a joke. Two races in Asia doesn't make a series a "World" series. Besides beating a few BMW 320's, and a couple of Honda Accords is nothing to be too proud of. I reiterate. Outside of Europe and Latin American countries, SEAT is completely and utterly irrelevant.

LAMBORGHINI-PORSCHE-AUDI. Lamborghini has some experience in F1 from its days supplying engines to Minardi. I was waiting for this, hope it happens.

Ah, yes, I suggest Audi (keep Porsche in sports cars). A turbo diesel in F1. Then maybe we'll get all those cool diesels in America.
