Budget-conscious people longing for blue skies and wind in their hair might find the Daihatsu Basket Concept right up their alley. Based on the 660cc Mira, the Basket is a four-seater with AWD. It features a removable two-part roof with a hard top up front and a soft piece to cover the rear seats.
Utility is taken care of by a deck behind the rear seats. It can take things like dirty working tools and other handy-man stuff without the owner worrying about scratches.
While a bit of utilitarian character is present, this is still a part-leisure vehicle and as such interior comfort is assured through the relaxing seats and other features.
The Basket will appear at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

LoL I want one based on just the styling alone. AWD is a bonus.
Looks cute- if it was reasonably priced- ie 7/8000 Euros it could do quite well i think
I pray that photos of this car are hanging in the Jeep design studio as we speak.

ok I don't meant o be cruel, but I just looked at all 3 daihatsu articles, and every one of these cars look the same. Do their design studios consist of only a ruler and a compass? Hateful piece of design, no imagination whatsoever and should be condemned to hell.
As a K car, being boxy is the only way, if you want to maximize the room inside. Then, it looks cute, really like it, just needs interior from BMW or MB so it will have a nice living room (they design it always as comfort as our living room, but poor material). Bring it into OZ with 600cc win turbo.
haha. daihatsu are kings of the ridiculous. all at once we're shown 3 ridiculous vehicles that, given the track record of models such as the 'midget' and 'midget mk2' just might get built. and the world is a better place. ridiculous is (in this case) very good.
Something must be wrong with me...I actually want one of these...it's perfect for people with second homes in the country side.
HA ! that is the funniest thing i have seen in a very long time! (and i watch the comedy channel alot) all i can say is that there is a good reason as to why daihatsu went out of business here in australia :) but personaly i wouldnt be seen dead in that thing :)
They didn't go out of business in Australia. Toyota shut down Australian sales of Daihatsu after they took a controlling interest. A shame really because they were the only ones doing really interesting small cars.
well i stand corrected :) my design and technology teacher told me they went out of business... so i guess he heard it wrong. but i still dont want one :)
love it, if it comes to spain and goes under 7.000-8.000 euro, i´ll be definitely getting myself one. my dog will love being driven to the beach on this one. long live mehari!
