More photos and details on the upcoming Honda Accord Crosstour have been released, this time with images of the interior cabin.

Following a largely negative reaction to the Crosstour's design by car enthusiasts and critics alike, who have plainly called it ugly, Honda is trying to mitigate the damage by promoting the practicality of the vehicle. It refers to the Crosstour's design as a "sleek and aerodynamic shape that blends sporty, low-profile contours with versatile [crossover] functionality." But it's consumers who will have the ultimate say about its looks and what their judgement will be remains to be seen.

The Crosstour is the crossover variant of the Honda Accord and features a spacious cabin that seat 5 and also comes with what Honda calls a Hidden Removable Utility Box in the trunk - a storage box that fits 8-inches into the floor of the vehicle.

Powering the range-topping Accord variant will be Honda's 3.5 liter i-VTEC V-6 engine. The Crosstour will also be available as an all-wheel drive.

The model goes on sale in the U.S. market in November.

Press Release (Click to expand)

The all-new 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour will feature a versatile, upscale 5-passenger interior with an innovative rear storage area, a standard 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine and available four-wheel drive when it goes on sale in November, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

"Honda has a longstanding reputation for maximizing interior space and utility in its vehicles," said Erik Berkman, vice president of corporate planning and logistics for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Like the award-winning Honda Fit, the Accord Crosstour uses a versatile design to create an interior that functions with the practicality of a larger vehicle."

The rear storage area features an innovative 8-inch deep under-floor Hidden Removable Utility Box with a reversible lid, featuring both plush-carpeted and durable-plastic sides. Levers near the interior fender wells, conveniently accessible from the tailgate opening, allow for one-touch conversion of the seats into the floor for additional cargo space.

The interior design is intended to enhance the feeling of width and space in the passenger cabin while creating a premium and accommodating atmosphere. The inset sculpting of the instrument panel along with a wide center console increases the sense of roominess. Intuitively grouped controls for the audio, climate and available navigation system are designed to operate with solidity and precision.

The exterior styling evolves the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) concept by integrating a sleek and aerodynamic shape that blends sporty, low-profile contours with versatile CUV functionality.

The Accord Crosstour will be positioned at the top of the Accord family when it goes on sale in November. Additional details will be announced later in the year. Consumer information is available at automobiles.honda.com/future-cars.

Honda made it to provide platform sharing with the Acura ZDX...it's the same vehicle...though the Acura is much more attractive...

Looks like Honda is well on its way to producing cars that are just as ugly as BMWs.

Well it shows Honda lacks eye friendly designs these days, they're even closing the European design studios.

http://www.cardesignnews.com/site/home/rss_display/item172910/

While Toyota draws some of their best designs of their line-up from their European studios. Such as the posted earlier Toyota FT-86.

Automakers can't ignore the fact car's exterior appearances is the first thing consumers see about a car, and would lead to impression and decisions about a car.

An Accord mated with a Venza. We shouldnt expect much, keeping in mind the saying "ugly parents bear ugly children".

Although, to be honest, I'm getting used to the Sport Tourer faster than the ZDX.

Now everyone will try to copy what BMW's has achieved with the X6 and achieving with the new 5 series GT...

Why can't everyone be creative these days...

This is it! It's not about beauty anymore but it is about how the car is very functional. So sad. goodbye accord and 5 Series.

jap version of bmw's crap...

one thing ridiculous about the interior is that there's such a big block dented inwards for the screen but the screen itself is so small!

This one takes the award for Ugliest Crossover of 2010. Still think the first place goes to Lincoln MTK! Just a shame for any of them!!

"Honda is trying to mitigate the damage by promoting the practicality of the vehicle" Interesting, the birth of this car cannot said to be "practical", as it's just a nasty copy from the X6. Practical customers would go to have a wagon or a SUV(if it is practical).

I just have to correct everyone who is saying it's "Japanese". I would bet my bottom dollar it's been designed in America by an American.

I think the all-time ugly crossover goes to Pontiac for the Aztec. I'll have to wait and see it and the MKT in person before making any judgment.

In truth though, I don't think this is a high point in automotive styling. In the late 90s, it seemed like each new offerings was more dazzling than the last (Boxster, SLK, Audi II, XK8, even the now-tired New Beetle). We're at a low for pizazz right now. The stylists seem bored and without innovation or passion.

Now that's some really UGLY looking machine !! How they do it, to ruin the Accord's image is quite hard .. i might say. So, if Honda will launch this model .. they will sell like 10 cars a year, worldwide. It may be practical, but come on .. who's gonna buy this when you already have 000's of choices for practical better looking car. Let's not begin with "copying" the BMW GT lines .. and that, from Honda (not some chinese brand) is quite a downgrade !

This and the 5 series GT are just large hatchback/fastbacks, nothing new- look at various 70s beasts like the Austin Ambassador and FSO Polonez to see the original monsters that inspired this.

give me a break. this car is not THAT bad looking at all. i quite like it. if we'd read the comments before seeing the car you'd think it would be outstandingly ugly. but its not. you'd think by the comments that the Japanese produce nothing but rubbish cars. i think we all know thats not true. ALL car makers have crap cars in their line up. including the overrated German marques with useless vehicles to answer lifestyle questions that no one asked. oh and the assertion that this Honda is probably designed by an American? well its probably spot on! oh and by the way as a designer i know for a fact that some European cars that are famed for their beauty are actually designed by far easrtern designers at their euro design centres. so get your facts right people about so called rubbish Japanese design...
