VW Scirocco R In the Metal [Video]

Admittedly this is not the best-quality video we've seen and it certainly does not raise the goose bumps. But it does go a long way towards showing what the new Volkswagen Scirocco R looks like outside of the glamourous lights and sharp race tracks. The video clip basically shows a lime green exterior and a little bit of the interior before the car is driven up into a trailer. The driver has the courtesy of giving us some aural pleasure by revving it up.

VW will roll out the Scirocco R around the world in the coming months. It's powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 195kW (265hp) and 350Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission options are a 6-speed manual and a DSG gearbox, both of which transmit power to the front wheels. VW says it will go from 0 - 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds (6.4 seconds if fitted with DSG) and let out a 250km/h top speed.

Handling is taken care of through equipment like an electronic XDS differential, lowered sports suspension, dampers and springs. Some exterior features include LED daytime running lights, standard 18-inch wheels and darkened taillights.

Wow, it looks even better in green! But I think the Engine note isn't that lively. Maybe that was just because it was at low rews.

"standard 18-inch wheels"... no, that's wrong. That's the standard in the normal scirocco. The R will come with the ones in the movie, wich are 19 inch.

looks nice, the back spoiler nicely covers up the top of the rear window which is too high in my opinion. The engine sounds sweet, cant wait to see in on the street.

This is easily the best-looking VW in the current line-up

@Emrys_Myrddin: Nope, you're wrong! A standard scirocco comes with 17". The R comes with 18" and is also available with 19" as an optional extra (they look like the 18" just bigger). That's what my german price list says ;)

That depends country to country. Where I live, the 2.0 TSI comes with std. 18" wheels, and is only available in DSG. Same went for the R32 golf. They decide on the standard spec. depending on the country.

Why does it offer all-wheel drive? That will definitely improve the handling

265 bhp and front wheel drive. I smell chaos. And my God, what is with the Kermit green? Lovely car though.
