According to a recent report, BMW will end production of the current 5-series (E60) in December.
While this is sooner than expected, it seems logical since the Dingolfing factory will be closed for the holidays and retooling for F10 production will take several months.
BimmerFile is also reporting that dealers will only accept special orders for the 5-Series through October 9th. The remaining production run will likely be an assortment of moderately equipped cars, destined to become dealer inventory.
If the reports are correct, the new BMW 5-Series will likely be launched after the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010.

Too soon, at least 1 more year, best 5 series ever (especially M sport edition!!!
You can't touch the M Sport Edition. Firm but comfortable ride, perfectly stable above 200.
this is the best 5 series ever? Really?!?!?!? not the E39? oh well, whatever makes u guys happy...
I think E39 is beautiful BMW, in fact I own 03' E39 because thats my favourite Bimmer (well, E39 and E38), but you gotta admit that E60 (M sport) looks really killer!!!
I prefer this model over the new 5 series I've been seeing on these forums. Really like this one.
lambocop : the e60 5 series have 7 years old it was unleashed in 2003
out of the Bangle stuff, this one - the 5 series I mean - is by far the best...
For me as Asian It is the best looking car and own one till now Then,Its sharp face (many comment it has a eagle face)looks very aggressive and modern compared to E39 or Lexus GS & E-Class Good handling, nice interior, better than E350 (engine, equipment and price) However, I'm also looking forward for the F10 Hope it also has quantum leap, not like F01 which is too conservative
Timeless design 5-series. I Love it even if it is the end of its production.
Why are they stopping it so soon? I would atleast wait untill they have shown the next generation. Best looking 5 series ever though and the estate is one of the best looking BMW's
Not just best looking BMW, the interior of the current 5-series is absolute topper in the market today - its after 5 years of production. Amazing car.
Still love this design after so many years! What a presence on the road when you see it coming in the mirrors with the 'eagle' eyes
When this one came out in 2003 I didn't liked it more than the older one. It had to grow on me. Now I think it is the most beatiful 5 series, and with the best engines. Bmw is going to do it all wrong, smaller engines, with turbo only. I'm not even suprised if they come with a 516i/d. Commons the 530i has a beatiful smooth engine with 272hp and is fuel efficient 7.7L/100 km is great, better than a golf gti which has 62hp less, 1000cc less, 2 cylinders less and weighs less. I think one of the best engines ever.
