Brit tuner APS has a power boosting upgrade for the Golf GTI that will take the iconic hot-hatch up to 250 hp.

APS, based in Brackley, Northamptonshire in the U.K., calls the performance boost Stage One, perhaps hinting at higher power levels to come. The standard VW Golf GTI's 2.0 liter, turbocharged engine comes with 207 bhp (211 hp) and 207 lb-ft of torque (280 Nm). APS takes those number up to 250 bhp, at 5800 rpm, and 292 lb-ft (395 Nm) at 2650 rpm.

That makes the Stage One GTI go from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.2 seconds, a substantial 0.7 seconds quicker than the factory version. Top speed also get a bump up to 155 mph (250 km/h) from the production 149 (240 km/h).

The price for APS's Stage One electronic control unit tuning is £599 (€656), including VAT. APS guarantee's the work for the full length of the factory warranty.

Press Release (Click to expand)

APS of Brackley, is pleased to unveil a new Stage One engine performance upgrade for the MKVI Volkswagen Golf GTi.

Thorough analysis by APS’s technicians has enabled the development of an effective ECU remap for the newly revised version of VAG’s renowned turbocharged 1984cc, EA888 TFSI engine.

The standard MKVI Golf GTi produces 207bhp and 207lb.ft of torque. By comparison, APS’s Stage One ECU performance upgrade increases power to 250bhp at 5800rpm, while torque jumps to a mighty 292 lb.ft at 2650rpm.

On the road, this translates into significant performance improvements, with the 0-60mph time falling from 6.9 to 6.2 seconds, while top speed increases from 149 to approximately 155mph.

Priced at £599.00 fitted, including VAT @ 15%, the APS Stage One MKVI VW Golf GTi upgrade is available now. For total peace of mind, APS’s conversions are covered by a guarantee for the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty.

A UK based demonstrator VW Golf GTi MkVI, fitted with the APS Stage One performance upgrade, will be available for media testing soon.

useful that they guarantee the work, but personally i'm not entirely sure i'd want 250bhp running thru the front of my GTI

This has been avail in the USA through APR for years. They can flash the ECU through the diagnostic hookup. It can be driven in either mode. I agree that 207 hp is enough through front wheel drive. You can't even get that power down in the twisties.

What's all that extra tq going to do to the DSG over 50K miles?

Why not just wait a little while and get a Golf R, which whill have 15 more horses and AWD?

sideskraper, Where's your data to substantiate that claim. If anyone could verify little damage to the DSG, over time, I'd actually consider this approach personally.

I sincerely doubt these claims on an ECU upgrade only, unless I missed something. And frankly, if you're pushing the turbo and engine this hard, it makes sense to upgrade a whole lot more to accomodate it. Full exhaust, DV's (unless MK6 has been one than MK5), heck, maybe even a better turbo. I'd really be concerned leaving all stock and simply applying an ECU upgrade of this nature (which is not mild in application from stats)
