Massa says Alonso's Singapore win was title 'robbery'

Massa says Alonsos Singapore win was title robbery

Felipe Massa has got his 2010 pairing at Ferrari with Fernando Alonso off to an awkward start, asserting that the Spaniard's controversial win in Singapore last year "robbed" him of the world championship.

The Brazilian, who is recuperating from serious head injuries and set to return as Alonso's teammate next season, suggested that the 28-year-old should have been disqualified as the winner of F1's first night race over the 'crash-gate' affair.

"All of what happened was robbery -- but regarding the race nothing has happened, the result remains the same. This is not right," Massa, who like Alonso is 28, told Brazilian Globo television.

"The robbery changed the outcome of a championship and I lost (the title)," he added, referring to Ferrari's botched pitstop that was triggered by the safety car period to clear Nelson Piquet's deliberately crashed Renault.

Massa said he cannot understand why F1's results are set in stone just weeks after the end of each championship, even when serious race-fixing later comes to light.

"I have seen in football how a referee took money to throw a game and all the suspect results were annulled," he charged.

"In Italy, Juventus were relegated. But here (in F1) they just sent Briatore home. I don't get it and I don't think it was right."

Not really Felipe. Your pit crew messed it up for you. I think Massa now realises that with Alonso coming to Ferrari, his chance of winning a WDC is very slim. SO he has to cry about what should have been. Hind sight is the only perfect science.

Also, if Alomso's win was scratched from the records and all other drivers promoted accordingly Hamilton would have won the title by a clearer margin. Poor Felipe, maths was never his strongest suit! Mind you, it looks like the new Ferrari team orders will be interesting next season. Remember how harmonious the proven cheat Alonso was with Lewis at McLaren?

We could also argue the same happened at Spa in 08, Hamilton would have been clear then for the WDC but I don't want to bring that up again. I does look desperate, I expected better from Massa but there you go. Is he trying to take the shine from Alonso being crowned at Ferrari. I agree with Nedrina, his own pit crew cost him no one else. That said next season could be a blinder

Man, what a crybaby..I cannot believe that he is still thinking about 2008 and how "everything was against him".. I do agree with all of your views above.

Yup, the pit crew messed up big time. even though Piquet didn't crash, Massa's routine pitstop will still be the same. So don't blame everything to Piquet.

man, drop it. Think about tne next year, try to win. If you think that Singapore o8 was mere unfair so you have chanse to prove it in 2010, prove that you're the best and don't cry.
