Rumor has it that Audi may begin limiting use of their V10 engine that has been a favorite on the RS6, S6, and the S8. Instead, the company is planning the introduction of a new twin-turbo V8.

The reason for the change is the environment. Speculation is that Audi will be able to provide more power, while producing less emissions, with the new V8. Despite this, Audi still chose to introduce the latest R8 Spyder with a 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated version of the V10. This unit produces 525 hp.

It could be the new Audi RS6 that first receives the new V8. With a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V10, the current-generation Audi RS6 goes 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The engine generates 580 horsepower and up to 479 ft-lb of torque.

On the previous RS6 (C5), Audi used a 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produced 331 kW (450 PS; 444 bhp). If BMW is working on a new, 550 - 600 horsepower twin-turbo V8 for the next M5, Audi could be working on something equally strong for the sake of competition.

The horsepower wars rage on as emissions and efficiency begin. I'm really going to miss that V10.

Does that mean the Gallardo replacement is going to share with this engine as well?

Never knew that it isnt avaliable in the US. But you can purchase the S-models,or?

I think its great to go for a twin turbo v8 if the power remains the same. its ought to be much lighter so you wont feel the front that much in corners.

Who cares? We will have the CTS-V Wagon.

...Who the hell in their right mind would want a CTS-V wagon over an RS6 Avant. I (and many other people for that matter) care that we aren't getting the best of Audi's range here. And for that matter, I woudn't even consider spending a cent of my money on an American car; the industry still has a very long way to go. Just because the CTS-V beat the M5 and XF-R in some AMERICAN automobile magazine comparisons doesn't mean it's a better car. When I'm plunking down 60-80K for a car, I'd take an AMG Merc or an Audi RS over a Cadillac any day just for their refinement, design and brand reputation alone.

Right, whatever you say, keep living in your own snob and "perfect" world.

Aw don't be jealous that American car companies screwed up and have yet to make some decent cars. Seems as if you're living in your own dreamworld where American cars are king. Keep dreaming. I don't understand how appreciating the refinement, image and value of European cars over American cars is being snobby and perfectionist.

To 2010S5:

A snob is a person with an exaggerated respect for high social position or wealth who dislikes people or activities regarded as lower class. Judging by your comments anybody who purchases the Cadillac or any American car for that matter is someone who isn't "in their right mind" and will therefore likely be classified as someone belonging in a lower class than yourself. If that is the case then Renegade has made an accurate assessment of your personality.

Furthermore, while its true that "American car companies [have] screwed up," to say that they "have yet to make some decent cars" is just as ignorant as saying that the Brazilians have yet to produce a decent soccer player, the French have yet to prepare a tasty meal, or that the Japanese have yet to manufacture a handy electronic device.

I admit that it was inaccurate for me to say that Americans have yet to produce a decent car, or that nobody in their right mind would buy a CTS-V Wagon. But Regenade's intial argument was that we shouldn't care at all that we aren't getting Audi RS6s because we have the CTS-V wagon, which is not even in production yet. I actually do care that we aren't getting RS6s and TTRS' here. And so do man others. As much of an improvement the CTS is over its predecessors, I still don't think it can match up to its European competitors in terms of refinement, value and brand image. I have not driven one but its awkward looks alone are enough to keep me away if I were in the market for a luxury mid-sized sedan. Cadillac cannot be compared to brands like Audi, BMW and Mercedes simply because it is not good enough. They don't have a mid-engined supercar like the R8 nor an technologically advanced large sedan like the Mercedes S Class. The Escalade is not nearly as well designed as a Mercedes GL and the XLR-V was a complete failure. I can go on and on. There is no question regarding Cadillac's inferior status amongst its European competitors. The company simply doesn't make cars that are good enough. Acknowledging that fact does not make me a snob in any respect.

Keep the v10, and in a new a6 the engine will be placed farther back anyway.

im sad now :S i mean i get the fact that they're trying to save the environment and all but cant they keep the V10 and just making more environmentally friendlier??? and they other things BMW has V8 twin turbo one 3 of there models 2 of then producing 555hp the X5-M and the X6-M and the new new M5 of course with 600 +... now we the buyers have to decide or the BMW V8 twin turbo or the Audi V8 twin turbo some of us will choose them for the noise other will choose them for the power others will choose them for the looks :s dont get me wrong me wrong Audi' s naturally aspirated V8 on the RS4 and R8 are freaking awsome! but its just the fact of taken away and iconic engine... JUST MAKE IT BETTER PLEASE!!!!
