After a few leaks, Toyota has officially unveiled the redesigned 2010 4Runner.

Taller, longer and wider than the outgoing model, the new 4Runner features bold styling with a familiar appearance. Toyota says they purposely designed the 4Runner to look as truck-like as possible, in order to give it "a more rugged, powerful stance." Base SR5 models have fender extensions with mud guards, a unique grille, and a standard roof rack. The off-road focused Trail model features a unique hood scoop, bumper guards, and darkened head- and tail lights. The range topping Limited model boasts a chrome grille, 20-inch wheels, and body-color accents.

The traditional sport-ute styling is backed up by rugged body-on-frame construction and two advanced four-wheel drive systems. SR5 and Trail variants are outfitted with a two-speed part-time four-wheel drive system, while the 4Runner Limited is equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a locking center differential. If your adventures take you off the beaten path, you'll be happy to know the Trail version features a standard electronic-locking rear differential.

Engine options include a 4.0-liter V6 (with 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque) and a 2.7-liter four-cylinder (with 157 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque). Fuel economy for the 4.0-liter V6 is estimated at 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway for 4x2 models and 17 mpg city/22 mpg highway for 4x4 models. The four-cylinder 4x2 models come in at 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

Inside, the 4Runner boasts additional interior room, premium materials, and a modern dash design. While all models are nicely equipped; options include a Safety Connect telematics system, a rear-view monitor, leather upholstery, a navigation system, and seating for up to seven people.
