Supercar meets video game, joy ensues

Mercedes has announced the SLS AMG will appear in the PlayStation 3 video game Gran Turismo 5.

Said to be "just as impressive in the game as it is in real life," the developers used "extremely realistic rendering techniques" to capture the essence of the new supercar. Besides the exciting visual effects, gamers will be able to race the SLS AMG on a number of different tracks including the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

While no release date has been set, Gran Turismo 5 is expected to be launched on December 29th (in the US).

As we have previously reported, the Mercedes SLS AMG features a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter (6,208cc) V8 engine with 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a 7-speed double-clutch transmission which enables the car to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph).

Coming out soon, Gran Turismo®5 will continue the success of this popular game series. Fans the world over can look forward to the opportunity to take control of a very special car: The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will be just as impressive in the game as it is in real life, thanks to the extremely realistic rendering techniques used to depict its drivers.

Drivers of the SLS AMG can look forward to taking part in thrilling high speed races on a variety of different race tracks, including the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, while competing against other vehicles from the super sports car segment.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will be displayed at the Tokyo Game Show (24 - 27 September 2009) with latest information on Gran Turismo®5.

With the new interpretation of the legendary gullwing, Mercedes-Benz is presenting a truly exciting super sports car which features an extremely impressive technology package: aluminium spaceframe bodywork with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front centre engine with a maximum power of 420 kW/571 hp and dry sump lubrication, 7-speed double clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration, and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbone axles.

The ideal weight distribution of 47 to 53 percent between the front and rear axles and the low centre of gravity accentuate the uncompromising sports car design.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will celebrate its Australian market launch mid-2010

"just as impressive in the game as it is in real life," meaning will it be just 1000 units per year available for the SLS in the video console as well?

Gran Turismo 5 is at least 3 years late to market and I don't even care anymore. Sony is too lazy or too stupid to realize that "time-to-market" is everything in this competitive market. Nobody is expecting "100% perfect" game and no such thing exists. No wonder Sony is going down the drain these days....

"Polyphony Digital Inc. is a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., and is a software developer entity." check it out yourself if you don't believe me. http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/ Do us all a favor, check fact first before you post. Sony is no way near what they were a decade ago, mostly due to their own arrogance and constantly missing critical market opportunity. GT5 is a good example. It was supposed to be one of PS3's launch games but instead we've been watching their stupid teaser trailers for more than 3 years now. Few months delay on product is understandable. Delay of more than 3 years, they need their heads examined. Regardless of what products a company makes, there are 3 golden rules to be followed; "Quality", "Speed" and "Cost". If you screw up on any one of these, you are doomed.

This probably all the Lexus LF-A's fault. Polyphony are just waiting for that to be shown so they can render it in GT5.

Well I think it really is not as beautiful as the SLR and it doesn't give you the feel of a hyper car....as the SLR does.

Why dont they just release the game and have the car updates available for download? that way the game won't be released so late and at the same time the car will always be updated.
