Ferrari 458 Italia Videos for Gran Turismo 5 and Forza 3

Wanting to drive the new Ferrari 458 Italia, but you don't have a few hundred thousand euros lying around?  Two different video games promise to offer fans the opportunity, allbeit a simulated one.

The 570-horsepower car will feature prominently in Gran Turismo 5, for the Sony Playstation 3, and in Forza 3, a game made for the XBox 360.  You can watch videos of the car in both games right here on WCF.  While the shorter, Forza video shows the car as fitting in perfectly against drawn landscapes, the PS3 video shows intricately detailed animations with the car's lighting as a focal point.

Ferrari introduced their latest flashy car at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this month.  With a 4.5-liter V8 engine generating up to 398 ft-lb of torque, the F430 replacement is capable of a 0-100 km/h time in 3.4 seconds.  The car tops out at 202 mph.

Both videos are very impressive, but I think Gran Turismo 5 looks better...

how can they use this car in a "driving simulation" game if they did even drive the car ? :)

I'm not entirely sure, but I think they (Ferrari) already have, haven't they? Also I'm sure the game maker had access to the car to some extent at some point during the prototype stages before the public knew about the car. If not, I'm sure that there was at least some serious consulting going on, including Ferrari test drivers demoing the car in reality and in the game. Also, the video says it won't come with the game but it'll be a DLC. So it's probably still in development.

i don't think Ferrari actually bothers allowing some game company to test their prototypes.

but they also have concept cars that don't even exist, how do they know how those cars drive ?

Hare & Tortoise story comes to mind. Plus with a Ferrari comes prestige & class. A nippy Datsun doesn't really compare in all honesty.

I dont think they need to drive the actual car, after all some pretty basic physics laws apply, all they would need is the car's crucial specs which you can get from the website, along with HP and Torque curves. The rest is physics calculations based on the coefficient of friction of the track and the tires.

gran turismo staff have had access to cars like this including concept cars for many years. for eg, exhaust testing by microphone on the actual real car to replicate the noise to match the game feature has been used for many years in the Gran Turismo series. All they need is to see the car in real life with camera shots to match the cars angles and shades, get a test driver in there and get them to provide the GT makers with some performance data to see how the car actually performs physically and these are some of the things GT makers have been doing for the last many years to get this game to where it is now.
