Land Rover's bold LRX Concept is inching closer to production, as our spies have caught a prototype undergoing testing at Germany's famous Nürburgring.
Wearing a Freelander 2 (LR2) body, the mule appears to have a shortened rear end and revised front fascia. While details are limited, the LRX will likely be powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine (with 160hp and 400 Nm of torque) as well as a 3.2-liter petrol inline six (with 230 hp and 317 Nm of torque). As previewed by the concept, a hybrid 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine may also be offered.
Set to receive the prestigious Range Rover badge, the LRX is expected to be available in three-door and five-door variants. The production model will also be taller than the concept, to allow for added headroom.
The Range Rover LRX will be officially unveiled next year, with sales beginning in 2011.
