Peugeot is introducing the RCZ compact coupe as a Limited Edition of 200 examples, especially reserved for European buyers who will be able to order their cars at the Frankfurt Motor Show or on the Peugeot website. The number is significant as next year marks the 200th anniversary of the existence of Peugeot as an industrial brand name.

The RCZ is powered by a 1.6-litre THP petrol engine making 115kW (156hp). Funny enough MINI's Roadster Concept has the exact same engine and gets 155kW (211hp) out of it. Plus the Englishman's concept is similar to the Peugeot; coupe, small engine, fun to drive. Hopefully the more powerful rumoured RCZ is under development as we speak.

The car runs off a 6-speed manual gearbox and sends power to the 19-inch wheels. These are matte black and are housed inside smoked chrome wheels arches. The Limited Edition RCZ features new pearlescent white paintwork and a double bubble roof covered in carbon fibre.

Inside nice things include Nappan black leather upholstery with heating function, front and rear parking assistance and more. These and other goodies like directional bi-xenon headlights, are part of three packages included with the €35,500 price.

Press Release (Click to expand)

A very limited edition: pre-orders from 17/09

With a strong tradition of "vehicles for pleasure" and nearly 200 years of industrial adventure, Peugeot is today launching a "Limited Edition" of the RCZ, reserved for its first 200 European customers.

Much more than a dream which has become a reality, the RCZ has been designed as an exclusive "custom" vehicle aimed at particularly discerning and demanding buyers. The 200 examples of the "Limited Edition" version of Peugeot's compact coupé can already be pre-ordered at the Frankfurt show or in the network; contact is also possible on Peugeot's Internet site. An edition numbered from 1 to 200 with a specific and top of the range product content.

Equipped with a 1.6-litre THP 115 kW (156 bhp) petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, this numbered edition of the RCZ gives a first glimpse of the new pearlescent white paintwork.

This livery provides a sharp contrast with the roof, covered with real carbon, as are the mirror shells that coordinate with the gloss black of the bumper grille and the brake calipers, the smoked chrome of the wheel arches and the matte black of the 19'' wheels. The interior is finished with top of the range Nappa black leather upholstery.

Finally, the "Limited Edition" RCZ comes very well equipped with equipment such as the WIP COM 3D (and the Peugeot Emergency service), the Vision Pack (directional bi-Xenon headlamps, headlamp wash, etc.), the Nappa Leather Pack (heated electric leather seats, over-mats, etc.), the Easy Motion Pack (front and rear parking assistance, etc.), the alarm, etc.

The "Limited Edition" RCZ is available in France at a price of 35,500 euros and will be delivered in spring 2010, when the new car is launched.

A snippet of history
Two hundred examples of this limited edition will be produced. This is a reference to Peugeot's 200-year industrial history, which will be celebrated in 2010.

I really don't get Peugeot. In the 80's they used to be the kings of group B racing with 500 hp turbo 1.8L. Now their front wheel drive 1.6 turbo makes 156 hp? First off make this an MR. Next boost the power by at least 120 hp. Good looks are nothing without the power to back them up. C'mon wake up peugeot!

umm.. "seats with heating function." every single car i have been in in my whole life has had heated seats. even a 1980's nissan micra.

and yes, 156 hp isn't exactly enough for a car that looks like this.

I think it only looks good in black, with 2 exhaust and only form the rear view

35k€... And just a manual gearbox ?? I prefer to go for a more efficient Golf R DSG. And now you can get a brand new Laguna Coupé for as low as 23k€ !!

156bhp? Is this meant to be factory rice or what? a car this good looking doesn't deserve a lawn mower engine.

I think Peugeot's main flaw is not the power of the motor as some of the above mentioned.

What you should do is scratch the name RCZ and call it what it is, a Peugeot 308 coupe'. Then all will make sense.

After all, it still looks like the regular 308 from the front which kills the design in my opinion.

I like the THP175 engine, but it had a little lack of torque on 6000rpm, so I look forward to this 200hp version. The 156hp version is just for cruisers that wants a good looking car. PSA should just but the THP200 in normal 308GT, 207RC, 407 and C4 and so on...
