It's no secret that Audi is unveiling the R8 Spider at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. Neither are these leaked pictures showing the car mostly jazzing around with two happy occupants. In addition to recent paparazzi shots of the car taken during the filming of Ironman 2 - Electric Boogaloo, spy photos revealed a black canvass roof whose mechanisms hid the mid-rear mounted engine. We'd be quite interested to see how said roof is operated.

The front end has the powerful grille with surrounding LED daytime running lights while the rear features LED rear lights, two oval tailpipes that are visible from the sides and a massive diffuser.

Audi plans to launch the R8 Spider with only the 5.2-litre V10 engine as its symphony of thrust. It produces 386kW (525hp) and peak torque of 530Nm. The transmission options are the 6-speed manual and the R Tronic sequential shifter. Power is shared along the two axles through the quattro AWD system which, if the same as the coupe's, can transfer up to 85% of torque to the rear wheels. Rumours say there won't be a 4.2-litre Spider but there may be an electric-powered one.

That's got to be a concept, either that or Audi have really outdone themselves with that interior.

yeah, it is the interior of a concept car, not the interior of the spyder.

I'm sorry but the R8 does not look good as a spider. sorry audi, huge fan of the R8 but this was a mistake.

i can't stop thinking that the R8 is better off with a Targa roof like the Veyron Grand Sport

I think the brown looks great, as does the rest of the car.

looks like they accidentally leaked an interior image of some kind of a concept. Looks interesting.

That interior shot shows completely different colored seat and a completely different upper dashoard than the rest of these photos. That interior definitely doesnt belong to this car. Its so obviously different in its structure.

The only amazing looking Roadster I know of is the Lamborghini Murcielago! The rest just don't look right as convertibles.

Interior appears to be from the so called R8 ePerformance concept, that is set to be revealed in Frankfurt. Cannot wait to see the rest of the car.

Love the spider though!

Subtle yet amazing is what crossed my mind seeing the first pictures. Good job Audi and the chocolate brown seems to gel very well with the design of this car. Audi have a success in their hands!

That's a ugly R8 with no side blades. What was Audi thinking? trying to look sexier than lambo gallardo? Maybe they should scrap this concept R8 spyder & keep the coupe or keep the side blades & chop it in half for the spyder version.

just build a targa with a removable top like the veyron or corvette and keep the side blades

Mate, maybe I need to see your optometrist. I'll need stronger glasses to see what you are seeing.

The whole R8 charm is lost, it looks like just another Audi now, hope its never made!

Cool! Finally they took those ugly sideblades away :) This is gonna be one of the hottest convertibles next year.

I saw alot of mix opinions, and it's good, I like it, but if you got the money, will you really have this over the Gallardo Spyder? I think not

additonal sideblades would look sh1t if they added something similar to the cabriolet. imagine the clean body colour, a different coloured soft hardtop and a different looking sideblade. this would look like pimp my ride. so i am pretty relieved they left the blade for the coupe and kept the cabriolet body smooth looking.

i think some of the super car essence has gone away due to it missing the side blades..it somehow does not look as composed as the coupe... that color also does not shoot out the character of the v10 they are going to put on it... maybe it would look better in red or black...but we have to wait and see

I see a more bespoke car here with the brown colour. It gives it a golden, expensive look, especially with the two-tone silver pillar finish. Speaking of expensive, check out the price tag! Movie product placements are doing great things for all things Audi. This is how you build a premium brand with pizzazz!
