I reckon it looked better with the disguise left on! Far too many straight lines and unsympathetic nods to the past. I mean, I know retro is 'in' these days but this is just ridiculous. Gullwing doors were a practical necessity for the SL in the 1950's but in the 21st century are just a painful marketing gimmick. At least the new McLaren appears to look to the future and not some rose-tinted past glory. As for the 'unofficial' timing of the release of these photos by Mercedes to take some thunder away from McLaren; shame on you Mercedes!

well put.
i don't see how a C-class steering wheel will cut it in their TOTL model.
it should be the other way around. design something special, and let the basic cars follow the image car.

No Merc engine for the McLaren and now Mercedes trying to steal Ron Dennis' thunder. Are relations between the two really that bad?
This in addition to the Brawn rumours too of course.

All really good looking untill you get to the rear - what happened Mercedes?

only one thing i don't like about this car , it doesn't come in black.

You may recall the order book that was leaked a little while back which features Obsidian Black as an option, as well as blue (Caspian was it?) and Diamond White which we've seen. Also the latest test photos of the SLS convertible features a black version.

I personally think the car looks really good at the front. but the rear isnt really what i expected nice. its too plain. hope the car kicks ass though. AMG for life

Beauty is the only thing I see in that pictures ..
The red one is amazing !

wow much is going on between Mclaren and Merc. tensions rise. still though decent car. didnt expect too much from it anyways.

This looks sensational. Every proportion is bang on and surprisingly subtle. I was expecting that with more than 500bhp, AMG would try to make an aggressive bodykit to let other people know of its 'sportiness'. Glad to see they held back. I would personally fit the wheels of the original 300SL onto this to accentuate the smooth look the entire car has going.
And yes, I'm a fan of the rear.

Why a 100% cloned SLR rear? This baby is almost Alfa 8C like Perfection, why!!??

Is it me, or i can see the silhouette of a Dodge Viper from the front 3/4, and an old Acura CL from the rear ?

I don't know why but it does look a bit odd. I guess it could be that the front end is extremely long and the design becomes increasingly plain as you look at it from front to back.

nice looking from the front till side pillars, after that rear end slopes down and looks weird. The interior?? I can't believe it in 1 or 2 years to come it will look very old, oh merc what a shame!!! you just create a car only for people that watching the large badge

This Merc and the Porsche Panamera are german designs, technically ok but visually ugly.
This Merc is developped from the Chryssler Viper, with german technology, ok, but emotionally a dramatic flop.
Please german automakers go for design scholing to Italy , UK or the States.
Good luck anyway.

From top view it looks very exciting but those rear tail lights look odd from not what I expected. Anyways, not as good looking as the Mclaren SLR but much better looking that the new Mclaren & so much space on the engine, could be left for the tuners & add a V12 engine in, but what will Top Gear do now, they are quitting the show & now two new cars are release for their review, let see what happens.

yuck very flat body panels and no sexy proportions at all. more viper with gullwing doors than the legendary 300SL. beautiful interior but i am dissapointed with the looks!
