Honda Releases New Accord Crosstour Photos Following Public Outcry

Honda Accord Crosstour - low res

Honda tries to convince us it's not that ugly

Honda has released new images of their highly controversial Accord Crosstour, in an effort to convince us it's not that ugly.

After being assaulted on forums, automotive new websites and even on their Facebook page, Honda apparently decided the two initial press photos were to blame for the nearly universal negative feedback. The reaction was so overwhelming, Honda released a bulletin on their Facebook page stating "Arguably, the two studio photos we posted didn't give you enough detail, nor were they the best to showcase the vehicle. Maybe it's like a bad yearbook photo or something, and we think the new photos will clear things up." The company also added " Many of you don't like the styling: It may not be for everyone. Our research suggests that the styling does test well among people shopping for a crossover."

Our original article highlights the magnitude of the disdain: Siawa called it "plain ugly", Iconic said it "reminds me of the fetal position", and Bristol411S3 said "Yuck. Thank God they don't serve up this sort of dross in Europe." As a matter of fact, not a single WCF commenter had anything nice to say about it (at least not sarcastically).

So what do you think of the Crosstour? Do the new pictures change your mind?  Vote below!

I was hoping they wouldn't put a Honda badge on this piece of crap.

Who the hell voted 'I love it?' They need to go to spec savers.

Better but still looks like a squashed BMW 5 series Gran Turismo with a Ford front end, they need to slap some 20 inch rims on, that makes everything look better.

If Honda reads this...... I have bought 2 new Honda's. One 2004 Accord V6 EXL and one 2009 Odyssey EXL. I was looking forward to the new Accord Crossover hoping it would borrow "as much as possible" from the very good looking European Accord Wagon and possibly replace our 2004 Accord with that one..... But this car is so ugly, it looks like it is bigger brother of the Pontiac Aztek. US Honda is in my opinion in a crisis when it comes to new and appealing designs. The new Accord is boring but not ugly, the new Accord crossover is just plain UGLY. If the plan is to steal buyers away from the Toyota Venza they have clearly failed. The Venza looks good in comparison...

I am disappointed.

The front is like from a huge truck and the rear is just butt-ugly... The part in the middle looks ok to me.

if you remember... a few car generations ago there was Toyota Corolla... the back of this car reminds me of that one, which was not one of my favorite models at that time... sorry for them (in fact I'm not sorry at all)! The front and the back don't work together... it's like that TV show "Scrap heap" where a bunch of guys try to assemble a car from pieces of scrap metal or something like that... Well, at least some old people and people with eye problems will buy it... he, he

I think it looks quite ok on the front 3/4 shots, the rear however is rather awkward, mostly because of the hatch reversed against the bumper and a long overhang. I agree however that bigger wheels can help this car a lot. I feel a bit sorry for Honda for the facebook PR fail, where everybody bashed the car.

Congratulations to Honda for trying to do something bold! However, the designers should be shot for this! the overhangs are too long, and rest of it looks like its melting! eeeugh

I swear American Honda has hired all the designers that GM and Chrysler fired from back in the 80-90 when their designs were cr*p. Xtour, Element, Ridgeline, Pilot all awful.

Please Honda Japan save this NA market!. Your designs from the 70-80s that were tasteful, simple and worked. Thats what you need.

Wow - I thought Chrysler's Sebring convertible was the ugliest car. I hope Honda is only making a sick joke of some kind.

I can't believe Honda blamed the initial negative reaction on the earlier photos of the Crosstour! The car is just not that attractive no matter which angle you view it from. Maybe they should have airbrushed out all the awkward cut lines and weird bumps. Oh...wait, then there wouldn't have been any picture at all.

This car needs a major facelift. Judging by the early mules that were based upon the Euro Accord wagon with the NA Accord face, I thought it would be a nice looking crossover but this is ugly, even by Honda's standards. I'd take the Toyota Venza over this anyday of the week.

September 7, 2009 10:18 PM
What a load of stupid replies. How can you compare this monstrosity with a Panamera... And even if you don't like the Panamera's looks, rest assured it is class leading in all that matters. This is just average all the way.

September 9, 2009 11:57 PM
Get_real you need to get real yourself.... The Panamera is terrible and it is FAR too early to see if it leads anything. I was the Ugliest but now this takes that title from Porsche

The idea to bridge the gap between an accord family car and a minivan is great! but come on - the design is quite horrible.

The front of the car looks typical accord and thats fine - not pretty but not ugly. The rear - This the worst part of the car! Why not go for a traditional station wagon rear?? nooo instead you chose to be stylish with a swooping drop back and instead made the vehicle hideous! Im sorry but the rear of this vehicle makes the rear of the panamera more than acceptable!! atleast it looks like they tried their best! Not to mention they had more styling restrictions compared to honda in terms of heritage.

- Let the rear window come down some more - eliminate the black strip in the back - smooth our the rear end (too many cuts and indentations) and create a proper bumper. You still have a rubber strip over the top of the bumper by the rear trunk.

Honda just to kill their market. They had successfully made a "MOST UNWANTED Vehicle" not just in US, but worldwide!!! Whoever approved this design for production need to fired themselves!

Honda has lost it this time. It seems to me they mixed bits and pieces from their existing models and made this car just to fill a gap in the market that was created by Toyota's Venza. Where is the passion and creativity??

But at least the Venza is better looking (one opinion here).

They had a proposed design last fall that looked more like a Honda interpretation of a Dodge Magnum wagon. That design looked cool. This looks like a down market version of the Acura, only more bland.

Like I said with the ZDX, looks like Honda hired the guys that GM got rid of from the Atzek program.

Have lost a lot of respect for Honda/Acura in the past two years with their product direction. I think a lot of people would agree with me that the wagon (estate) version of the Euro Accord (sold in US as Acura TSX) would have been much better received and appreciated.

September 8, 2009 1:45 AM
It has sort of an 80's Saab'ish feel to it. However, it's far from "ugly". Different? Yes. Aside from the in-your-face grill and it being about 5 inches too high, it's not a bad design for what it is. I know there's definitely a lot worse out there today.

This has got to be the worst looking Honda I’ve ever seen the styling is just not right, from ever angle there’s something that looks wrong or out of place. I’ve never liked the styling of American Honda cars but at least they weren't ugly. Honda I think it's far too late for an April fools joke.

okay, i see people over reacting a little here. it is not a gorgeous piece of machinery, but it is not barfugly either. will surely appeal to its core audience and sell okay - but only if honda manages to overcome this whole facebook talk. maybe if none of that had happened, many people would find its design just okay. but once the audience is aware of the entire controversy and the car starts being recognized as 'that ugly honda people were cursing on facebook', well, it could easily become the next aztec.

with these new pics honda only confirms the fact the car is actually ugly from no matter which angle you look at it from.

September 8, 2009 6:19 AM
Terrible, schizophrenic, incoherent design. I'm starting to think Honda f***s up it's designs so people distinguish Acura as superior. Or maybe it's the hippie design studio in L.A., move your studio to Chicago where people actually WORK for a living and get back on track. No point giving any critique except to be consequent in the planning/design stage and start over. The late model TL, TSX, and MDX were excellent examples of design balance and proportion.

Now why would someone buy this and not a CRV.

Orfeifei
September 8, 2009 5:22 PM
good question, tell me Honda if you see this. Why should I buy this but not a toyota or even the BMW? Because you're cheap? No one would buy it even if it is cheaper than a civic. Because it's big? so why not a CRV or a accord wagon? Because it's honda? You think you're BMW?

If you hold this kind of design language, you'll die out very soon. Just like the NSX, it is for sure a failure,if it'll back to production, having a look like the renderings shown before.

Honda, I can't understand why can't you take reference from the Stream(I think the 2G Stream is very beautiful before facelifted), Odyssey, Civic, Accord or even the Jazz/Fit. They're very nice design but now you're making more and more pieces of crap. The Acura models are believed to grow more and more grumbles but this crossover should be the ultimate point that most of the honda fans, like me, cannot withstand. For the current Acura line-up and this honda, I would say, go to hell. Futuristic design may be good, but Americano, beat it.

JTZ
September 8, 2009 10:23 PM
Orfeifei you nailed it on the head!

Honda is going on marketing research of 30-40 year old women and that is the truth. And with these new designs hey have alienated many fans.

The Venza is better! in everyway!

Anyways i guess its time for a die hard honda fan boy to change sides - Nissan you are our last hope!!!!!

I think they should have tried to make the overhangs even longer. And maybe chop another foot and a half off the wheelbase. THEN it'd look cool!!!

P.S.: Does it come with the illegal tint job from the factory?

September 13, 2009 5:26 PM
Honda/Acura used to make clean, beautiful products. Lately, they look as if they were designed in Detroit! Long overhang both in the front and back make their products look bloated. Interior looks busy. Where's the Zen simplicity, yet functional?

I think that you have to give the new Crosstour a chance ,I mean you have to see it up close. As for the Venza it looked good until they copied the piece of crap ford edge front end that`s a turn off for me.!!

Between my wife and I, we had 12 Honda/Acura in the last 27 years. We loved the 2009 Toyota Venza when it was released earlier this year but decided to hold off until we can compare it with the new 2010 Accord crossover (now know officially as Honda Crosstour). Based on the pictures we have seem I think we have just wasted a few months. We should have gone ahead and purchased the Venza instead of waiting for this ugly looking monster. I think the Honda designer need to go back to school.
