New supercar will be lighter and smaller and won't feature as much power or as high a top speed as the celebrated F1 McLaren

i remember reading a couple of car magazine articles that he dislikes almost all of the new supercars. guess this guy got some serious ego problem that his F1 got overtaken by the newbies

F1 got overtaken ? not really .. the F1 is still an incredible car..this guy got the knowledges and experiences to create super car, i am very excited to see another masterpiece of gordon murray ..can't wait

I wish murray would focus on a grass roots car. One that BMW, Audi or lexus can't build. One that sells for between 25-30k USD. One that can be driven to the track AND run very hard and fast without the need for modifications.

to me it kinda sounds like hes picky on what he likes in a car and yes hes unhappy about the F1 being overtaken by new supercars. the Mclaren was very good for its time and still is, since that was made years ago more technology has come into cars with weights and engine things. Two cars i do like is the Gumpert apollo (3 secs) and the koenigsegg CCXR (3.2 secs) CCXR edition (2.9 secs) 0 - 100km/h -62mph

I don't share the view that newer supercars have "overtaken" the F1. It's still an incredible car. It actually wouldn't have been that tough to have strapped turbos to the F1 to chase horsepower and top speed figures. That is has only 2/3rds the power of a Veyron, weights 2/3rds the weight and can still be driven within just 12mph -- and was doing all this 12 years earlier -- speaks volumes about what an achievement that car is.

of course you don't share that view , you're British. but the F1 wasn't that special in it's days either. it has a good straight line speed , but the handling wasn't something to write home about and on the track it was slower than it's competitors. even Clarkson admitted the handling of the F1 wasn't that good .

Because Clarkson isn't a proper racing driver. Tiff Needell on the other hand praised the handling and had an argument with JC for awhile. Which one's a better driver? Tiff is.

no doubt that the McLaren F1 is still a very good car only today's supercar has overtook it with better carbonfibre chassis body composites, ceramic brakes, dual-clutch gearbox, sophisticated all-wheel drive system, driver's electronic assist or even the kinetic energy recovery. it still is one of the greatest supercar ever built, but come on murray.. we already mourn Ford's GT40, the Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari F40, Porsche's Carrera GT.. get over it.

Murray doesn't like many of the current super cars. However, he does like the Pagnai Zonda. We'll never see another car like the McLaren F1. Too many safety regulations.

Yea Murray is mad but hes not mad that the F1 got (overtaken). Hes just mad that veyron and all the other supercars that surpassed 250mph only got that far becaues they used tecnology to get there. If you think about it the veyron would have been to heavy with all them radiators and turbos and it wouldnt have reached the 250 mark. same goes for most of the supercas. But dont get me wrong i do like all suprecars becaues they are uniqe in their own way

I hope he makes something comparable to the F1. Whatever you say it was top of it's class when it came out. I still have loads of respect for it. In a straight line it will still be right up there wut it seems in handling the times have moved on. Didn't Evo (who I rate a LOT higher than Clarkson) compare it with a Carrera GT a couple of years ago. The F1 was Mr. Bean's car I think. I seem to remember they had same kind of POV: still impressive but in lap times slower than the Porsche. Anyway, go Murray!

you have to think about the fact that the safety and pollution regulations were more relaxed in the 90s. the cars were lighter and the engines were not restricted. apply those relaxed regulations to today's cars and the F1 would have no chance.

Murrays' observations regarding the current state of the supercar are spot on. Current builders appear to be in a race to produce the first car capable of reaching 300mph seemingly under the presumption that the people with the means to procure such a machine also have regular access to VWs high-speed test facility. Its all getting a bit ridiculous. Should such a car ever be produced it will likely be useless on anything but an airport runway. I've seen 2 Enzos in my life and they were both travelling at the same speed... 0 mph.

good point on the enzos ive seen 4 bugatti veyrons at a track and a zonda f carrera gt and many others they didnt move.

Nice publicity stunt for his design studio, also note- NO ONE comes out and says "it will be boring, slow and a weak effort all round", everyone claims their new supercar is "est" in something or other, best approach is wait and see.

@ scratchy996 F1 wasn't that special" that statement is the dumbest thing i've heard, so the worlds first carbon monoque car, the longest record held for fastest production car (still the fastest N/A car), the only production based car to win LeMans on it's debut (1,3,4 & 5 in 1995) a car that's still today almost 20 years after it was designed is generally reguarded by most experts as the greatest supercar ever made is "not that special", oh and by the way Clarkson whilst fun to listen to is a top class idiot, mmmmm... maybe that's why like him.
