Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing to Debut on Sept 10th [Video]

Mercedes-Benz will officially present the new SLS AMG "Gullwing" on the 10th of September, just days before it goes live to the public at the IAA. Fans who await it eagerly are now able to watch this promotional video featuring the car while still under heavy disguise. Automakers often make their own "spy" material in the form of photos and/ or videos. These are sometimes leaked out to the media so as to create hype for the car featured.

A steady stream of SLS AMG media material has been experienced over the past few months following the appearance of spy shots and videos. During that time less and less camouflage was seen. In fact completely undisguised bits such as the doors and the interior have been sent out officially.

The first supercar to be conceived and produced entirely by the AMG division sports a front-mounted 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine. Maximum power is 420kW (571hp) at 6,800rpm and its peak torque of 650Nm is achieved at 4,750rpm. Running the 20-inch rear wheels is a 7-speed double-clutch transmission which helps it go from 0 - 100km/h in 3.8 seconds. An electric-powered eDrive version is confirmed and will use four electric motors for a combined power output of 392kW (533hp) and 880Nm of torque.

This is like a huge make or break moment for Merc. They better not screw this one up. We need a good replacement for the SLR!

price difference is 300.000$ so nothing will replace the SLR

A brilliant car, no doubt and an ideal one it could be with less retro front design, more modern like the rear part of the car is designed - an example of perfection.

this is going to look amazing, but, im kind of tired of the car before it even came out... with all the offical spy photos, Mercedes over pressed (?) this car.

The numbers are good and all - its defintely got boogie. But i dont like the styling. It's just not sleek enough for me to be called a supercar.

I don't like the look of the SLS, I understand that it is a nod to the old 300SL but much prefer the SLKs... more sleek.

You think the SLK is more sleek than the SLS...??

Yes, that's what i wrote? In what way am I wrong in describing the SLK as 'more sleek' than SLS? The lines on the car, the overall shape, none of it matches the current design philosophy of the Mercedes range. Compare it to the stuff like the SLs, SLR, CLS, E-Class. To me this SLS is nothing more than the 300SL redesigned. Which is nice? But a unique and acquired taste all the same. Think about it :)

Your statement is a tad confusing. Yes, the SLS IS exactly a redesigned 300SL..that's what it is to MB and all else. The SLK is a bit on the short/stubby side of the 'line market'. It's just a bit befuddling that you believe it's more sleek than the SLS, with its lengtly guise. Sure the SLS isn't pointed at the nose, but its figure prolongs airflow nonetheless. In addition, whether or not the SLS shares a consistant philosophy of design with the rest of MB's line-up is irrelevant to the matter of it's sleekness. Think about it :) Perhaps you meant slick?

It's funny when you compare how long M-B has been working on this car and how long Lexus has been working on the LF-A. It just goes to show you that M-B knows what they are doing and Lexus has no clue. I think they have been wokring on the LF-A twice as long as the SLS and still have no time frame to debut the car.

and Mercedes also worked on the convertible and they plan an electric version too.

yeah seriously, an electric version too?! m-b's research and development is crazy impressive! and you know this car's going to have bullet proof build quality and reliability.

Finally, the official release is upon us. The moment couldn't arrive soon enough. I've been incredibly anxious to see proper photos of this beauty in full dress. Hopefully it debuts in a color that will tantalize taste buds...I'd like to see the Alu-Beam. Perhaps there will be two and/or the convertible.

They have been working on this car less than GM was working on the camaro. I think the camaro took actually the longest from concept to production, longer than the Veyron. And then we wonder why the americans arent innovative. How can they be when it takes them 7 years to put out the next gen, and the rest of the world takes 3, and even in those 7 years they dont come out with something innovative in design, engineering, or technology. Nevermind the SLS, what about the R8. Can't beat proper funding for R&D, German precision, and work ethics. While the americans are doing laps around the McDonalds drive thru the germans are doing laps around the ring.
