Peugeot Considering Hybrid, Convertible & Even Quicker Versions of RCZ
Peugeot RCZ

A more powerful, Porsche 911-like 'Targa' version of the RCZ may be in the offering in the future

Peugeot is aiming high with the RCZ.

The French volume car maker is reported to be considering a faster version of the RCZ, one that makes it more competitive vis-a-vis the Audi TT, as well as a hybrid and cabriolet variants to round out the range.

The RCZ could come with a 'Targa'-type model, along the lines of the Porsche 911, says the RCZ's production chief Marjorie Lhullier. "If we could do a targa similar to the Porsche 911 with the RCZ double-bubble roof it would be fantastic," she is quoted in the Autocar story.

But that RCZ will have to have a more powerful engine than the current range-topping 1.6 liter turbo with 200 bhp in order for the model to be considered within 'Targa' territory. The RCZ, as it is now, though, is a light car at 1275 kg, making that 1.6 liter take the car from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in a decent 7.6 seconds.

Also in the cards, according to Lhullier, may be a diesel-hybrid with power in the range of 200 bhp too.

Peugeot will be going after a different consumer demographic with the RCZ model, expecting a customer-base that is 80 percent male, as opposed to its other cabriolet/coupe models. Both the 207CC and the 308CC are heavily aimed at female drivers.

Starting price for the RCZ in the U.K. market is expected to be below £20,000 (22,855 euros). The model is slated to go on sale in the spring of 2010.

More powerful version sounds good. Maybe they can put a 250bhp-ish V6, or am I being a tad too optimistic here?

If I were them I'd Midship mount a 2 liter turbo w\ about 320 hp to the rear wheels. If you targa'd that then you can talk about porsche 911 like. C'mon you can do it peugeot!

i like this car,it is really cool. but i have a problem with more powerful versions, because the most powerful engine ever is a 240hp V6,so it should be less powerful than peugeot 407 coupe V6.

I can imagine, that it is possible to push the weight down. 1275 kg is ok for a modern coup? with conventional frame and glassroof, but it can be lighter and then 200 PS are really enouth! The 1.6 whould be a perfect topengine for such a carconception. We know, a diesel-hybrid might be much heavilier and makes only sence with a very small diesel and a potent electric engine. You guys mean that only Peugeot coup?s are good things? They are the most emotional Peugeot, maybe. But don't forget, that not all consumers have a use for these nice twodoors.

thinking about mid-mounted V6s is way to optimistic I'm afraid... I think Peugeot will probably take the same attempt as Audi and simply go for a slightly more powerfull Engine, stiffer suspension and some optic tuning... and then name it RCZ-R... or RRCZ... or RCX... or WRC-Z?! :-P Hmmm... I think I'll be getting one next summer - if the price is right. If a well equiped 200hp-Version costs about 35k I'm allready sold... black paint, red window tint, black 19"-rims with red highlights.... mmmmmhm ;) and hey: its built in my country! :)

Nice... But I want to see those babies on the street right now!! A 3.0L V6? Impossible. Maybe a 2.0L Turbocharged WRC-engine due to the recent downsizing wave. It should came up with at least 260hp. No more changes needed. This car would be perfect!

It's just really really good looking, hope they go mental someday and make it mid engine and 300hp+ then put it in rally

A mid-engine RCZ rear wheel drive would be the best, whatever the drivetrain. I hope Peugeot will reconsider...
