Minivan meets MPV

Ford's 2011 C-MAX has been spotted with its rear passenger sliding door open.

While we have always anticipated the new C-MAX would adopt minivan-style sliding doors, due to the door handle position, this is the first time our spies have been able to confirm it. If you look closely at the pictures of the C-MAX in the garage, you can clearly see the bottom of the right rear sliding door.

Engine options will likely mirror those offered on the Focus and Kuga, with minor modifications for improved fuel efficiency. Eventually, the C-MAX may be outfitted with Ford's new turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with at least 230 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque.

Set to adopt Ford's latest exterior design theme, the C-MAX will attempt to make MPVs an attractive alternative to hatchbacks. Inside, the car will feature seating for up seven as well as a cockpit heavily influenced by the new Fiesta.

Like the Fiesta, the C-MAX may be headed to North America. While it's an interesting proposition, Ford hasn't confirmed anything as of yet.

I imagine it is headed to NA with a sliding door. Europeans don't tend to like those on MPVs so much.

Good looking & decent MPV, IMHO. Loved travelling on a C-MAX in the lush Yorkshire dales (typical LR terrain) & my mate ended up cooking the clutch plate haha. Had to return in "limp home" mode, sadly.

2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with at least 230 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque, I don't think so.

That particular 2.0 has a turbo, hence the name.

I think the US-market C-Max will likely offer two engine choices: 2.0-liter I-4 rated at 140 bhp with a five-speed automatic (essentially the Mazda3 drivetrain) and a 2.5-liter I-4 rated at 175 bhp with a six-speed automatic (essentially the Ford Fusion sedan drivetrain).

Update: Photos of the 2010/11 C-Max are already out on the internet. Body styling looks similar to the Kuga compact SUV.

I dont like sliding doors on cars like this, it is Ok on something big like a Grand Voyager but not on a small car. Conventional doors are better...

That is not the car from the photographs which are already on the net (no sliding doors, lower roof). I'm pretty sure that this is new mazda 5.
