Spies have captured a round of photos showing the next generation Ford Focus for the first time in its hatchback glory.  Previously spotted were sedan and wagon variants, but this marks the first time that a hatchback mule has been caught on camera.  Perhaps a bit late in the development cycle for mules but the Focus is expected to go on sale in 2010 as a 2011 model year car, and should feature the choice of several different turbocharged engines.

Some say that the Ford Iosis Max concept car shown off in Geneva will be the basis for the next-gen Focus.  That could mean a car with a raised chassis and wheels that sit snuggly in the wells providing a ride that is not the most aerodynamic but great for bumpy roads and speed traps (?).  Expect to see a rounder front end, and perhaps a glass roof akin to the Citroen C3.  This is all speculative, especially since the exterior of the test mule is nothing new.

An electric version of the Focus may also be sold in the American market.  The EV is expected to have a 100-mile range making it an urban competitor to the Chevrolet Volt and a direct competitor to the MINI Cooper E.

Hopefully the interior will look fancier than in Fiesta. I assume that it is going to be even better to drive than it's predecessor. Definite NO for raised chassis! I would like to see ST and RS models soon, maybe with 4wd, as Ford has good knowledge in rally cars. They should just put it on the streets.

But will any of them have awd, dsg and (efficient)POWER in desireable sporty package?

They should do the same trick as Seat did with Ibiza - Sport Coupe. Just take irrelevant doors away and make it look sporty.

Probably just the basic styling, but not the shape.

The Iosis Max is more of a preview for the new design language (evolution of the Kinetic Design) that the next Focus/ C-Max(Focus MPV) will most likely be using.

First many people thought that european fords looked way better than american ones, I wasn't one of them. The american ford fusion looks way betterin my opinion than the mondeo. Bring that car to europe, with smaller engines and a estate model.

Umm, no, the fusion is closer to the mondeo in size- this is a smaller car, that you drive through an European invention called "corners", quickly, and derive pleasure from the composed chassis and balanced suspension. Those crazy Europeans, what will they think of next...

Sorry guys, this is only a mule. No Focus 3 protypes are on the road yet. These pics have nothing to do with Focus 3.
