Tuner outfit 9ff is apparently planning to release the GT9-R as a convertible. While the hardtop will be restricted to just 20 units, the convertible will be even more exclusive. Only three editions are expected to be produced.
Big ups to WCF reader VaderInc for sending us this info he spotted on the 9ff website for clients in the United Arab Emirates. Although the UAE site is still being put together as the tuner firm preps their new digs in Dubai, this sketch of the GT9-R convertible appears in front of one of the coastal city's most iconic buildings.
Customers in the UAE will get first crack at the three convertibles. If they do not sell, 9ff will sell the GT9-R open-top on the open market. Along with the sketch, it is the first we have heard of the GT9-R in months.
Appearing for the first time in Essen last year, the 9ff GT9-R uses a twin turbo 4.0-liter engine that produces a brilliant 1120 horsepower and a maximum 1050 Nm of torque. The hardtop is expected to go from 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds, and should hit a maximum 257 mph (413.51 kph). That could potentially take the production car speed record away from the SSC Ultimate Aero, which was set at 255.83mph (411.71 kph).
