Would compete with Honda's CR-Z hybrid

A new report has surfaced indicating Toyota is currently working on a Prius coupe.

While details are limited, the article states that Toyota is considering having Pininfarina or Italdesign create the styling for the new model.

Power would likely be provided by the Prius' 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with Synergy Drive. While the engine's 98 hp (73 kW) and 105 lb-ft (142 Nm) of torque isn't exactly sporty, the coupe would likely boast a fuel economy rating of 48+ mpg (US).

If Toyota does produce a Prius coupe, it would compete with Honda's recently confirmed CR-Z hybrid (CR-Z Concept pictured). As we have previously reported, the CR-Z (Compact Renaissance Zero) will be launched in Japan, in February 2010.

The front looks like it came out of Transformer and the back look like it's from the Honda Insight, this rendering doesn't work at all. Hope the real thing is nothing like it

well the rendering you see are actually honda's CR-Z concept, which in my opionion looks horrible, the main image that was taken from a magazine, looks alright. thought I hope Pininfarina doesn't do the body styling, I don't like their ideas at all.

Italian designed Prius? At least we know it can't look worse than the current Prius.

Well this looks better then the sedan/hatchback, just give it at least 150 hp.

Dang, can we say, "HYUNDAI RIP OFF!?" At least the front and especially the hexagonal grill...

I just can't understand how the Prius's 1.8 engine only produces 98bhp. In Europe that's expected from a 1.4 engine. Case in point, the 100bhp 1.33 Toyota engine found on the Yaris, IQ, Auris and Urban Criuser. if they used a smaller more efficient petrol engine the Fuel Economy will improve further.

Hubix mt I hate to say it but you don't know your cars well enough.... The Prius 1.8 isn't at all the same as a traditional engine (it’s an atkinson cycle engine), its specific to this model because of the fuel economy it can turn out.

I think it looks more Honda than Toyota. Ultra-futuristic design language, some like it, some not.

What's a lexus IS-F doing there? I can't imagine how terrible the visibility from inside the car would be.

I'm so glad Honda's even made their concept car's steering wheel on the 'right' side...

I mean, like Land Rover make their concept car steering wheels on the left. Come on, are they not proud of their country anymore? Even some Toyota concepts are like that now.
