Spyker's long awaited D8 Peking-to-Paris has been spied ahead of a possible Frankfurt debut.

Looking virtually identical to the D12 Peking-to-Paris Concept, which debuted way back in 2006, the D8 PP arrives at a time when SUVs have fallen out of favor with many consumers. Regardless, the sport-ute features traditional Spyker styling with an aggressive profile and massive wheels.

While we can't get a good glimpse of the interior, the D8 appears to adopt the concept's glass roof and uniquely styled four-seat cabin.

As the name change implies, the production Peking-to-Paris will feature a V8 instead of the concept's 500hp W12 engine from Volkswagen. While nothing is official, rumors have indicated that the D8 will use the 556hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 from the Cadillac CTS-V.

My guess would be an Audi V8 as they currently use and as would match well with the 4x4 hardware, surely?

Looks like an over-inflated Spyker C8, which it is.

"the D8 PP arrives at a time when SUVs have fallen out of favor with many consumers."

No. SUVs have rather fallen out of favour with tree huggers. SUVs will always be popular with their targeted consumers. They will surely adopt new fuel saving technology and alternative engines or fuels but people will always be buying Range Rovers and other SUVs.

Not to say you're wrong, but people are not buying SUVs as much as they were a year and a half ago. The SUV market collapsed; therefore, they are no longer popular with consumers. Whether or not people still like them is irrelevant, because the fact is most potential buyers opt not to buy them. So, as far as the relevance of the statement you quoted is concerned, SUVs have indeed "fallen out of favour."

I beg to differ. A year and a half ago there was no (obvious) financial crisis, which is largely the reason less SUVs have been sold. The SUV market is far from having collapsed (outside the US). Here (Switzerland) you see more SUVs than ever, mostly Cayenne Turbos and Supercharged Range Rovers.

Now why did spyker have to go and do that. I have respect for them when it comes to high class supercar, but an SUV reallyy.... there are certain companies that just don't belong, example ferrari, Lamborghini and a few more. It's bad enough that Bugatti is showing off their 4 door sedan. what in gods name were they thinking.

They did it because their clients wanted them to.

Ferrari had a 4 door car , they even experimented with all wheel drive. Lamborghini built tractors and pick-up trucks. Porsche used to built tractors. Spyker used to build planes.

Let the companies build what they want, i'm sure you're not in the market anyway. and someone who is won't change his mind about buying a Spyker sportscar just because they are making a SUV now.

Just think of this as a high-riding sedan (which it is), and everything's ok.

Bristol411S3

Not really. Because a high riding sedan is inherently flawed, suffering a needlessly high CoG which will knobble its sporting pretentions.

This isn't going off road so as a sedan it doesn't need to be high riding. Make it low riding and everything's OK.

it is a high riding sedan and it is OK. you can't go to a picnic in an M5 and in high snow and gravel roads this is better. not everyone wants a sporty sedan, some just want something comfortable with a good view of the traffic. and in this case something original. ugly or not , this will turn heads.

A truly beautiful car that I hope makes it to production. I saw it in it's pre-production form at the now Lamborghini Portland. I wonder though how it will fair in the market with a +$300k projected price tag. If, like the article says, they put an GM V8 instead of a VW V12 I would assume that is in the interest of cost saving and keeping the L/100km down and the mpg up.

I think this is for those who find the X6 to be short on image- I can see how it makes sense, wonder how long before every manufacturer in the supercar league has one similar on offer

i dont get it. this has been on Spyker's website for years. how is it a concept? are they finally making it or something? too bad its way expensive... its gorgeous. make fun of it but its a work of art. and dont call it an X6 copy - like i said, its been on spyker's site for years. maybe BMW got the idea there ;P

ugly , but original. in a market filled with Cayenne , X5, X6, Q7, GL , some people want to be different.

It's like what Porsche did with the 911, stretch it upward, and bam! Cheyenne.

What you guys need to realise is that this SUV is true to Spyker's design language and it will be instantly recognisable as a result. See how much this company has achieved in record time. They even made a product placement in War, starring Jet Li and Jason Statham. Not surprising why it now has a presence in the USA. They must be doing something right. The SUV market remains strong globally, especially Stateside.
