Our spy photographers have managed to catch Mercedes' 2010 E-Class Cabrio undergoing high performance testing on Germany's Nurburgring.
With only a few pieces of tape covering the front and rear headlights, the E-Class Cabrio looks production ready. Styling follows the standard E-Class Coupe, but as we have previously reported, the drop top features a unique windscreen-mounted wind blocker that deploys when the roof is lowered. While it doesn't look terribly attractive, it should reduce turbulence inside the cabin.
Under the hood, expect Mercedes' typical assortment of gasoline and diesel engines. Reports have indicated that Mercedes has killed off AMG versions of the E-Class Coupe and Cabrio, so the most powerful engine will likely be the 5.5-liter V8 with 285 kW (382 hp).
Look for the new E-Class Cabrio to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Merc is doing EXACTLY that by calling the C derived car an E-Coupe.
also, have you seen the interior? it's taken straight from the C-Class, not the E. it's also not priced significantly lower than the E-Class. Compare the old gen CLK and E-Class for example!
also, how is the interior of the e-coupe:

looks less like the e-sedan's interior:

and more like the c-class' interior:

the center console (except the shifter) and gauge cluster are from the e-sedan. the entire dash was designed to be more like the e-sedan than the c-class. the seats are unique to the e-coupe. the door panels are a mix between the c and e classes. so how is the interior "taken straight from the c-class"?
people here are too hung up on platform sharing. maybe they should, at least, learn what platform sharing really is before they complain about it. there is nothing wrong with doing this so long as it is done well. and both the e-coupe and the 6-series are good examples of platform sharing. and to quote car and driver:
"So we’ll go along with the name change. Because after all, if it LOOKS like an E-class and DRIVES like an E-class, it’s pretty FAIR TO CALL IT AN E-class."

sub39h - What number vision glasses do you wear, how can you say the interior is from the C. The last time i check and many will agree its like the E Sedan.
