It's more reasonable to fine them rather than a race ban. (It's quite a big difference between a race ban and a $50k fine tho...I'm curious to know the rationale)

Typically F1, when it hurts ticket sales (Alonso is Spanish, Valencia is in Spain) rules can be bent.

I read all the comments that say the teams should be banned from races because of either material falure or crew person mistakes. I think the idea of banning Renault or any other team for this type of incedent is just obsurd. The reasoning is because it was a saftey issue, well so is strapping into the car and firing the motor. Every time a racecar moves there is an element of danger and risk, both to the driver and the fans. That is also part of the draw, the ability of a team to control Chaos in the best way to win. I will remain a fan as long as they (the sanctioning bodies and the teams) keep competion alive in the sport. When they police it to much and they reduce competion unrealisticly claiming saftey I will move on as a fan.

I don't get it: they wanted to ban Renault and not even talk about banning Brawn...

50K?? That's lunch for the race crew. Why even fine them? When is Bernie leaving?
